Let’s Receive the Thousandfold Blessing that Has Been Permitted to Us
The “blessing of a thousandfold” was a message that God gave to the Israelites through Moses before they entered into Canaan. The message emphasized to the generation that was born in the wilderness and did not know the law very well, that idolatry and marrying gentile women were forbidden once they entered Canaan. And if they were to listen and obey those commandments, they would receive the thousandfold blessing. The Israelites, having received this message, were looking forward to entering the land of Canaan. Likewise, I pray that us saints would believe that this message also applies to us and we would look towards today’s Canaan, heaven, and receive the thousandfold blessing.
I. The key to receiving the thousandfold blessing is believing in God
The Israelites, who had received the promise of the blessing through Moses right before entering Canaan, could not wait to enter Canaan. They were awaiting the final command to march but Moses never spoke of any military arrangements or preparations. He did not order them to check on all weapons such as swords and bows, nor did he speak on how they would battle against the Canaanites. Only the faith in God! All he did was emphasize on living a life of faith, never letting go of the Word and holding onto the Word. In other words, the key to receiving the thousandfold blessing isn’t some military strength or economical strength; it is received through faith and believing in God.
Faith of fearing God, faith of obeying the Word That was the greatest weapon, strategy, and policy they had. Just as God gave the Israelites that left Israel the blessing that is thousand times more than the current blessing, He will give us the same blessings to us, who leave the world that is like Egypt and believe in Jesus.
II. The thousandfold blessing is given to one that is continuing to march towards Canaan
Along with the thousandfold blessing, Moses gives the Israelites one last order. In short, it was to ‘march on forward!’. The word “go” appears three times in today scripture, Deut 1:7. This is a word that summarizes the Israelites’ duty in word. What is the spiritual meaning of this word? It is God’s supreme order, telling them their duty of evangelism. Matt 28:10-20, and Acts 1:8 share the same idea. We must take the gospel and go out to the world. God gives the thousandfold blessing to those that go forward to make all people disciples of the LORD. Therefore, the thousandfold blessing is given to those who go from, the world that is like Egypt, to Canaan to spread the gospel. It is those that eat and drink Jesus’ flesh and blood while living in the Egypt-like world. If the exodus movement is the movement of the church, going into Jesus, the march to Canaan is the mission of the ministry to spread the gospel and feeding Jesus’ flesh and blood to people. Those that go forward towards the promised land of heaven without stopping, just as the Israelites marched towards Canaan without stopping, are the ones that are deserving of the thousandfold blessing. There isn’t a thousandfold blessing for those that halt and hesitate. Those that believe and go forward, that follow Jesus Christ, they are the ones that will receive the thousandfold blessing.
Likewise, God’s blessing is for those that are living and moving. That is why heaven belongs to those that are invasive (Matt11:12).
III. What is the content of the thousandfold blessing?
What is the content of the thousandfold blessing that is given to us by God? Looking at the Bible, we can break it down into three things.
First is the blessing of numbers. This was already shown through the increase in Israel’s population. Israel, which started as Jacob’s family of 70, experienced a tremendous growth to 2 million in 400 years since moving to Egypt. This blessing of growth in population put fear in the pharaoh and Egyptians. This was why he ordered the midwives to kill male babies. But this growth of life could not be stopped by anyone because it was God’s blessing.
Second is the blessing of materials. The Israelites, who escaped Egypt to the land of freedom, Canaan, were able to live with a thousandfold blessing even materialistically. They took silver and gold jewelry from Egypt upon the exodus. Upon entering Canaan they had nothing but were promised an eternal inheritance and actually even received a portion of it. Furthermore, the life of living in God’s Word, this itself was the greatest blessing that could not be compared to their previous lifestyle. So they received the blessing of possessing and hosting all things as God’s children. (1 Cor 3:2).
Lastly, the divine blessing. As Eph 1:3-4 states, they received the blessing of “every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ”. They were blessed with the spiritual blessing of – when hearing one word, realizing and believing a thousand.
Conclusion
The Book of Psalms states, “Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce, And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields”. This applies to the saints that are receiving the thousandfold blessing today. No matter how pitiful our “present” is, I pray that we would be saints that believe that God will pour His blessings thousandfold and that goes forward, without halt, towards the world of hope.
허락하신 천 배의 축복을 받자
‘천 배의 축복’은 이스라엘 백성이 가나안 땅에 입성하기 직전에, 하나님이 모세를 통해 율법을 재강론하는 가운데 주신 축복의 말씀입니다. 율법을 잘 모르는 광야 세대들에게 다시 한번 율법을 가르치면서 가나안 땅에 입성해서는 우상숭배나 이방 여자들과의 혼인을 금할 것을 강조하고 있습니다. 그 말씀을 믿고 순종하기만 하면 천 배의 축복을 주겠다는 것입니다. 이 말씀을 들은 이스라엘 백성이 희망에 부풀어 가나안 땅 입성을 손꼽아 기다리고 있음을 볼 수 있다면, 오늘 신령한 가나안인 천국을 바라보고 있는 우리에게 주시는 말씀인 줄 믿고, 믿음으로 천 배의 축복을 받아 누리는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.
1. 천 배의 축복을 받는 비결은 하나님을 믿는 신앙에 있습니다.
가나안 땅에 들어가기 직전에, 모세를 통해 천 배의 축복을 약속받은 이스라엘 백성들은 하루빨리 그곳에 들어가기를 원하고 있었습니다. 마지막 행군 명령만을 기다리고 있는 그들에게 모세는 결코 군사적인 준비사항을 언급하지 않았습니다. 칼이나 활 등 무기를 점검하고 가나안 사람들과 어떻게 싸워야 하는지는 한마디도 언급하지 않았습니다. 다만 여호와 하나님을 믿는 신앙! 절대 흐트러짐 없이 말씀을 놓치지 말고 말씀만을 붙잡고 살아가는 믿음에 대해서만 강조했던 것입니다. 그것은 천 배의 축복을 받는 비결이 어떤 군사적인 힘이나 경제력에서 오는 것이 아니라, 하나님을 믿는 믿음에서 나온다는 것을 뜻합니다.
하나님을 경외하는 뜨거운 신앙, 말씀을 순종하겠다는 신앙! 그것이 최선의 무기요, 전략이며 정책이었던 것입니다. 출애굽 한 이스라엘 백성에게 ‘현재보다 천 배’의 많은 축복을 주셨던 것처럼, 애굽과 같은 죄악 세상에서 나와 예수를 믿는 우리에게도 이와 동일한 복을 주신다는 것입니다.
2. 천 배의 축복은 가나안 행군을 계속하는 자에게 주어집니다.
천 배의 축복을 앞두고 모세는 이스라엘 백성에게 마지막 한 가지를 명령합니다. 그것을 요약하면 ‘진행하여 가라!’는 것입니다. 본문 신 1:7 말씀을 보면, ‘가라’는 말이 세 번이나 반복해서 나옵니다. 이는 이스라엘 백성의 사명을 한마디로 요약해 주는 말씀입니다. 이 말씀의 영적 의미는 무엇입니까? 바로 주님의 지상명령, 전도의 사명을 일깨워 주는 말씀입니다. 마 28:10-20 말씀이나 행 1:8 말씀도 동일한 사상을 담고 있습니다. 복음을 들고 세계를 향해 나가야 합니다. 만백성을 주님의 제자 삼기 위해 ‘진행하여 가는’ 사람들, 그들에게 하나님께서는 천 배의 축복을 주신다는 것입니다. 그러므로 천 배의 축복은 애굽 같은 세상에서도 복음을 전하기 위해 가나안 행군을 계속하는 자에게 주어집니다. 이는 애굽 같은 세상에서 예수의 살과 피를 먹고 마시는 자를 뜻합니다. 출애굽 운동이 바로 예수 안으로 들어가는 교회운동이라면, 가나안 행군은 복음 전도를 통해 예수의 살과 피를 전해서 먹게 하는 선교 사역을 의미합니다. 가나안 땅을 바라보며 중단 없이 전진했던 이스라엘 백성과 같이, 약속의 땅 천국을 바라보며 끊임없이 진행하는 자가 바로 천 배의 축복을 받는 자격자들입니다. 주저하는 자에게는 결코 천 배의 축복이 없습니다. 믿고 행군하는 자, 예수 그리스도를 따라가며 함께하는 자, 그들이 바로 천 배의 축복을 받는 자들입니다.
이처럼 하나님의 축복은 언제나 살아 움직이는 자의 것입니다. 그래서 천국은 침노하는 자의 것입니다(마 11:12).
3. 천 배의 축복, 그 내용은 무엇입니까?
하나님께서 우리에게 주시는 천 배의 축복, 그 내용은 무엇일까요? 성경을 통해서 우리는 세 가지로 생각해 볼 수 있습니다.
첫째는, 수의 축복입니다. 그것은 이스라엘 백성의 수적인 증가를 통해 이미 보여 주셨습니다. 70의 야곱 가족이 이스라엘에 이주한 지 400년 만에 200만이 넘는 폭발적인 성장을 경험하였던 것입니다. 이러한 수적인 증가의 축복에 바로를 비롯한 애굽의 모든 사람이 두려워할 정도였습니다. 그래서 산파에게 ‘남아를 죽이라’ 명령할 정도였습니다. 그러나 하나님께서 축복하신 귀한 자녀들이기에 폭발적인 생명의 성장을 아무도 막을 수 없었던 것입니다.
둘째는, 물질적인 축복입니다. 애굽에서의 속박에서 벗어나 자유의 땅, 가나안의 복지에서 살게 된 이스라엘 백성은 물질적으로도 천 배 이상의 축복을 누리고 살게 되었습니다. 표면적으로 출애굽 시 애굽의 은금 보화를 취해서 나오는 축복을 체험했습니다. 맨손이었던 그들이 가나안에서 영원한 기업을 약속으로 받고 직접 분배받기도 했습니다. 더 나아가 하나님의 말씀 안에서 살아가는 삶 자체가 그 이전과 비교할 수 없는 큰 축복의 삶이었던 것입니다. 그리하여 하나님의 자녀로서 모든 만물을 소유하고 주관하는 축복을 받게 되었습니다(고전 3:2).
끝으로, 신령한 축복입니다. 엡 1:3-4 말씀과 같이 ‘그리스도 안에서 하늘에 속한 모든 신령한 복’을 받아 누리게 되었던 것입니다. 한 말씀을 들어도 천을 깨닫고 믿는 신령한 영의 축복을 받아 누렸던 것입니다.
결론
시편 기자는 ‘우리의 곳간에 백곡이 가득하며 양은 천천과 만만으로 번성한다’고 하였습니다. 바로 오늘 천 배의 축복을 받는 성도들에게 해당하는 말씀입니다. 오늘 우리의 ‘현재’가 아무리 보잘것없고 미약하다 할지라도 ‘천 배’로 부어 주시는 하나님의 축복을 믿고, 그 소망의 세계를 향해 끊임없이 진행하여 가는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.
