The Three Seals that God Recognizes and Protects
A seal is one of the most important items used in our daily lives. You cannot reverse a transaction or a contract once you put a seal on it. A seal becomes a sign that validates and certifies all agreements. God said He will make every believer like His “seal.” God said in Hag 2:23, “I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you.” This does not mean that He will give us some kind of powerful seal but will make us like His signet ring. Didn’t it say in Jn 6:27, “For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval”? It is also stated in today’s Scripture text that circumcision is a sign or a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. If so, let us examine together the three seals that God recognizes.
I. The blood of the Passover Lamb is the seal of salvation.
Led by Moses, the Israelites left Egypt after 430 years of slavery. However, with the hardened heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, God had to pull His chosen people of Israel from the hands of Pharaoh through ten plagues. In the final plague of striking all the firstborns of Egypt, God gave the blood of the Passover Lamb to the Israelites as a sign of deliverance. Hence, the households of those who slaughtered the lamb by faith and sprinkled its blood on the doorframes were passed over by the angel of death. That is why it is called Passover. That is why it is stated in 1Pet 1:18-19 that the blood of the Passover Lamb is the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. It is also stated in Jn 1:29 that Jesus was the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. It is also written in 1Cor 5:7, “Jesus Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed.” We the sinful mankind were created from the dust is destined to die in sin and become a perishable corpse, but Jesus gave us the hope of resurrection when he became our Passover Lamb and shed his precious blood. If the blood of Jesus is sprinkled on our homes and to all members of our households, we will be granted with a blessing to defeat all powers of death. This is the “seal” that God gave us. The angel of death passed over us because the blood of the Lamb was in our bodies and hearts. This is how we were able to be born again with a new life. This is the effect of the seal of salvation that God has granted us.
II. The ‘Sabbath’ has become a sign between God and the Israelites.
If there is another seal of blessing that God has given to the Israelites, it is the ‘Sabbath.’ This ‘Sabbath’ was a sign of blessing that was granted only to His chosen people. Through the Sabbath, the Israelites were consecrated from the Gentiles and were given the privilege to worship God. That is why God said in Exo 31:13, “You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come.” There was no Sabbath when the Israelites were in Egypt. As soon as they came out of Egypt, the Sabbath was enacted. However, the Israelites have forgotten the Sabbath that God has given to them while going through the painful wilderness journey. They did not realize that it was a sign of a seal to mark them as His people. That is why God commanded in Num 15 to kill those who violated the Sabbath. As such, the Sabbath is a sign of the chosen people, and it indicates that there is a contractual relationship like a signet ring made between God and the Israelites. This Sabbath symbolizes the blessed land of eternal Canaan. Thus, only those who observe the Sabbath will be able to enter the land of Canaan. Jesus came as the Lord of the Sabbath and became the culmination of all the laws of the Old Testaments including the Sabbath.
III. The “scarlet cord” tied at the entrance to the land of Canaan was a sign of salvation.
The scarlet cord that was tied in the window of the house of Rahab the harlot in Jericho has become the sign of salvation or a seal. The scarlet cord tied in the window became a secret seal that symbolizes a new life as well as a reward for survival. It is written in Rev 9:4, “They were told to harm only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.” In the process of the Israelites’ entry to Canaan, this scarlet cord that Rahab the harlot tied in her window has become the seal of salvation that was placed on the foreheads of her family members. Hence, the secret of this scarlet cord symbolizes the seal of the living God that is given to the Church that recognized the witnesses of the Word in the End Times. This scarlet cord also symbolizes the precious blood of Jesus, the blood of salvation. Rahab the harlot was just a harlot when others saw her, but she was a selected member who was cordially invited to the festival of new life from the perspective of the Will. Those who are marked with the precious blood of salvation of Jesus like harlot Rahab will be saved in the midst of the fall of Jericho, which symbolizes the destruction of Babylon, the latter half of the 7-year tribulation.
Conclusion:
Abraham was also marked by the seal of God, and it is “circumcision” he received. Circumcision is a ritual that removes the blood of death. Circumcision that Abraham received was circumcision that extracted death and marked with life. As such, God guarantees our beliefs with His seal, the promised Holy Spirit. The power of that seal is effective until the day of redemption (Eph 4:30). I sincerely hope that all of you will be the saints who still have these 3 seals of God in your hearts today and triumph in hope.
하나님이 인정하시고 보호하시는 세 가지 도장
우리의 일상생활에서 도장은 아주 중요하게 사용되는 것 중의 하나입니다. 물건의 매매나 계약에 있어서 도장을 찍으면 이를 번복할 수 없습니다. 모든 계약에 효력을 인증하는 표시가 됩니다. 하나님께서는 우리 믿는 성도 각각 한 사람을 직접 ‘도장’ 삼아 주시겠다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 학 2:23 말씀을 볼 때, “너로 인을 삼으리니 이는 내가 너를 택하였음이니라” 하셨습니다. 우리에게 어떤 효력 있는 도장을 주시는 것이 아니라, 우리 자신을 직접 도장 삼아 주시겠다는 말씀입니다. 요 6:27에서도 “인자는 아버지 하나님의 인치신 자”라고 하지 않았습니까? 오늘 본문에서도 할례는 무할례 시에 믿음으로 된 의를 인(印)친 것이라 하였습니다. 그러면 하나님께서 인정하시는 세 가지 도장에 대해 알아보도록 하겠습니다.
1. 유월절 어린 양의 피가 구원의 인(印)입니다.
이스라엘 백성이 애굽에서 430년간의 종살이를 마치고 모세의 영도하에 출애굽을 하게 되었습니다. 그러나 애굽 왕 바로의 완악함으로, 하나님께서는 열 가지 재앙을 통해 바로의 손아귀에서 선민 이스라엘을 빼어 내어야 했습니다. 애굽의 모든 장자를 치는 마지막 재앙에서, 하나님은 유월절 어린 양의 피를 구원의 표징으로 이스라엘 백성에게 주셨습니다. 그래서 믿음으로 어린 양을 잡아 그 피를 문설주에 바른 사람들의 집은 죽음의 천사가 넘어갔습니다. 그래서 ‘유월(넘을 逾, 넘을 越)절’이란 명칭이 생겨난 것입니다.
이 유월절 어린 양의 피는 흠 없고, 점 없는 어린 양 같으신 그리스도의 보배로운 피라고 벧전 1:18-19에서 말씀하고 있습니다. 요 1:29 말씀을 봐도, 예수님은 세상 죄를 지고 가는 하나님의 어린 양이라고 하였습니다. 고전 5:7에서도 예수님은 유월절 양으로 희생 제물이 되어 주셨다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 흙에서 지음 받은 죄악된 인간은 죄 가운데서 죽어 썩은 송장이 될 수밖에 없었지만, 예수님께서 우리의 유월절 어린 양이 되어 보혈의 피를 흘려 주셔서 우리에게 부활의 소망이 주어졌습니다.
예수님의 피가 우리의 집에, 우리 가정의 모든 식구에게 묻어 있다면 어떠한 사망 권세도 다 물리칠 수 있는 축복이 주어집니다. 이것이 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 ‘도장’입니다. 어린 양의 피가 우리 몸속에, 우리 마음에 묻어 있기에 죽음의 천사가 유월했습니다. 그리하여 새 생명으로 거듭난 것입니다. 이것이 하나님께서 우리에게 허락하신 구원의 도장의 효력입니다.
2. ‘안식일’이 하나님과 이스라엘 백성 사이에 표징이 되었습니다.
하나님께서 이스라엘에게 주신 또 하나의 축복의 도장이 있다면 바로 ‘안식일’입니다. 이 안식일은 오직 선민 된 이스라엘 백성에게만 주신 축복의 표징이었습니다. 안식일을 통해 이방과 구별되었고, 하나님께 예배할 수 있는 특권이 주어졌습니다. 그래서 출 31:13에 “너희는 나의 안식일을 지키라 이는 나와 너희 사이에 너희 대대의 표징이니”라고 하셨던 것입니다.
애굽에 있었을 때 이스라엘 백성에게는 안식일이 없었습니다. 애굽에서 나오자마자 안식일을 제정하였습니다. 그러나 이스라엘 백성은 광야 여정의 고통 속에서 하나님께서 주신 안식일을 망각하고 말았습니다. 하나님께서 당신의 백성으로 인쳐 주시는 표징임을 깨닫지 못했던 것입니다. 그래서 민 15장에 보면, 안식일을 범하는 자는 다 죽이라고 명령하였던 것입니다. 그만큼 안식일은 선민의 표징이고, 하나님과 이스라엘 백성 사이에 도장과 같이 계약으로 맺어진 관계임을 나타내 주는 것입니다. 이 안식일은 영원한 가나안 복지를 상징하고 있습니다. 그러므로 안식일을 지키는 자만이 가나안 땅에 들어갈 수 있습니다. 예수님께서는 안식일의 주인으로 오셔서, 안식일을 포함한 구약의 모든 율법을 완성해 주셨습니다.
3. 가나안 땅 입구의 ‘붉은 노끈’이 구원의 표징입니다
여리고성의 기생 라합의 집 창에 드리워진 붉은 줄은 구원의 표징, 즉 도장이 되었습니다. 창에 드리워진 붉은 줄은 새 생명을 대신하고, 보상으로 받아 살아남은 비밀의 도장이 되었던 것입니다. 계 9:4에 “오직 이마에 하나님의 인 맞지 아니한 사람들만 해하라” 하셨습니다. 가나안 입성의 과정에서 기생 라합이 드리운 이 붉은 줄은 바로 그 가정 식구들의 이마에 인쳐 주신 구원의 도장이었습니다.
그러므로 이 붉은 줄의 비밀은, 종말에 말씀의 증인을 인정한 교회가 살아 계신 하나님의 인침을 받은 상징입니다. 이 붉은 줄은 바로 예수님의 보혈의 피, 구원의 피를 상징하기도 합니다. 기생 라합은 남이 볼 때는 기생이지만, 뜻으로 볼 때는 새로운 생명의 축제에 초대받은 선민입니다. 후 3년 반, 바벨론 멸망을 상징하는 여리고성의 함락의 와중에도 기생 라합과 같이 예수님의 구원의 붉은 피로 인침을 받은 자는 구원을 얻게 됩니다.
결론:
아브라함도 하나님으로부터 인침을 받았으니 바로 그가 받은 ‘할례’가 그것입니다. 할례는 사망의 피를 빼는 의식입니다. 사망을 뽑고 생명을 인친 것이 아브라함이 받은 할례입니다.
이처럼 하나님께서는 우리의 믿는 바를 약속의 성령으로 인쳐서 보증해 주십니다. 그 도장의 효력은 구속의 날까지 유효합니다(엡 4:30). 오늘도 이 세 가지 하나님의 도장을 마음에 품고, 소망 가운데 승리하시는 성도님들 되시기 바랍니다.
