Faith is Eternal Life and Heaven
To what extent do you consider about the faith to trust Jesus Christ? The faith to trust in Jesus is the biggest and most solemn task that cannot be compared with any other event in the world. It is because nothing is more precious than the Lord Jesus, and he cannot be exchanged for the wealth of this world. In other words, faith is eternal life and heaven.
I. There is a judgment that is destined for man.
What would a man give in exchange for his life? This issue is not just for the world, but it is for eternal life. It is because everything becomes meaningless if you lose eternal life no matter how much wealth, fame and power you have in this world. In a play titled “15 Minutes,” a promising young man completed doctoral studies at the age of 30 and submitted his doctoral thesis but became terminally ill with a lung disease. His physician told him that that he would die in 15 minutes. At his final moment while he waited to die on his deathbed, an obituary of his billionaire uncle and a letter arrived telling him that he would inherit his uncle’s money and property. When he has 8 minutes left, he received a notice that he passed his doctoral dissertation. When he has 5 minutes left, a letter from his fiancée arrived accepting his proposal. However, what good is a happy wedding proposal, a doctorate degree or an inheritance? This young man acquired everything at age 30 but lost it all when he lost his life. As you can see, no one can avoid death that races toward him. That is why the Bible urges us to prepare to meet God. It is stated, “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (Jam 4:14). A night of death comes to everyone. An end date will be here. A day to destroy the earthly tent is coming (2Cor 5:1). People are destined to die once and face judgment afterwards (Heb 9:27). Who would claim to be righteous before God who examines deep into one’s past and his heart? (Rom 3:10)
II. We will not face judgment but recognized as righteous and enter heaven when we believe in Jesus.
There is no one righteous, not even one in this world. They are all sinners. If so, where does sin come from? We are not sinners because we have sinned. We must be tried and convicted before we become sinners. Who is a sinner before God? There is no man on earth who is not a sinner when God judges. However, we are not a sinner if we are not judged here on this earth in this age or in the age to come. Hence, we should not be judged by God. It is because sin will surface when we are judged and the wages of sin is destruction. If so, who would be destroyed and who would be saved? It is stated in Jn 3:16, “whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” It is stated in v17, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Yes, that is right. We believe in Jesus to have eternal life without being perished. We believe to receive salvation without facing judgment. Why do we perish when we are judged? It is because sin will surface. When we don’t face judgment, there is no sin; but there is sin when we are judged. If so, who will enter heaven? Is it the sinless? No, it is not so. All kinds of sinners including the tax collectors, prostitutes, murderers, robbers, and other ungodly sinners have entered heaven. Even though they were sinners, they entered heaven without facing judgment as they confessed and repented their sins amd were recognized as righteous through their faith to trust Jesus. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Since there is no charge, there is no judgment (Rom 5:8).
III. Eternal life is the biggest event of life that cannot be compared with anything.
The humans were evicted from the Garden of Eden when they ate the fruit of good and evil and their relationship with God was cut off as they were judged by God. However, God sent Jesus to us so that we can be exempted from judgment in His grace. However, the judgment we have already received is confirmed when we reject this grace. God gives us one chance, whether salvation or judgment. The Bible speaks about this fact in Jn 3:19. “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light.” Jesus who is the True Light of the world came to this world. Those who come to Jesus prove that they have life and also prove that they are good. However, those who reject Christ are lifeless that testify evil within themselves (Jn 3:21). This indeed is the judgment and the verdict. It is not that judgment occurs after everyone dies, but each judgments of life and death and the judgments of good and evil are already decided toward Christ. Hence, life is a time to decide eternity. Because eternity is being prepared in this age, one’s life is a failure if he fails to prepare eternity in this age even if he succeeds in everything else. Therefore, life on this earth is more important than business, power, honor, or happiness. Moreover, eternal life is the biggest event of life that can never be compared with anything in the world. If such life is acquired only by believing in Jesus Christ, faith is life. We receive salvation and eternal life by faith. Something that is not possible with our own efforts, patience, or tears is possible only through faith.
Conclusion:
Our forefathers of faith lived their lives that faith is the sole purpose of their lives. Abel died while keeping faith whereas Enoch was moved to heaven without seeing death while he walked with God by faith; and Noah made an ark by faith and his family was saved. By faith Abraham left his country, people and the father’s house and offered Isaac. By faith Moses left Pharaoh’s palace and found joy in the sufferings that he endured with his people. All these people considered faith as their lives and the biggest event of their lives. Now, their faith must be our faith.
믿음은 영원한 생명과 천국
여러분은 예수 그리스도를 믿고 사는 문제를 어느 정도로 생각하고 있습니까? 예수를 믿는 문제는 이 세상의 그 어떤 사건과도 비교할 수 없는 가장 크고 엄숙한 과제입니다. 주 예수보다 더 귀한 것은 없고 이 세상 부귀와 바꿀 수 없기 때문입니다. 즉, 믿음은 영원한 생명과 천국이기 때문입니다.
1. 인생에게는 반드시 정해진 심판이 있습니다.
사람이 무엇을 주고 자기 목숨과 바꾸겠습니까? 이 문제는 이 세상만을 위한 문제가 아니라, 영원한 생명을 위한 문제입니다. 이 세상에서 아무리 부귀와 명예와 권력을 소유하였을지라도 영생을 잃어버린다면 이 모든 것이 아무런 유익이 되지 않기 때문입니다.
‘15분’이라는 제목의 연극 중에, 어떤 유망한 청년이 30세에 대학을 마치고 박사학위 논문을 제출해 놓고 그만 폐병으로 사형선고를 받게 되었습니다. 의사의 소견으로는 15분이면 죽는다는 것입니다. 최후의 순간, 병상에 죽음을 기다리는 청년에게 억만장자 삼촌으로부터 부고와 함께 재산 상속을 하라는 편지가 도착했습니다. 그의 생명이 8분이 남았을 때 박사학위 논문 통과를 알리는 통지문이 왔습니다. 5분을 남겨 놓고는 애인의 결혼 승낙 편지가 도착했습니다. 그러나 행복한 결혼 약속과 박사학위, 그리고 백만장자의 상속권이 무슨 소용이 있습니까? 청년은 30세에 평생을 분투해도 얻기 힘든 것을 다 얻었으나, 생명을 잃으므로 다 잃게 되고 말았습니다.
이처럼 인생은 저마다 자기를 향하여 달려오는 죽음을 회피할 수 없습니다. 그러기에 성경은 우리에게 하나님 만나기를 준비하라고 당부하고 있습니다. “너희 생명이 무엇이뇨? 잠시 보이다 없어지는 안개니라”라고 말합니다(약 4:14). 인생은 저마다 죽음의 밤이 옵니다. 끝날 날이 옵니다. 장막 집이 무너질 때가 옵니다(고후 5:1). 사람이 죽는 것은 정하신 것이요 그 후에는 반드시 심판이 있습니다(히 9:27). 자신의 지나온 날, 마음속 깊은 곳까지 살피시는 하나님 앞에 의롭다 할 자 누구이겠습니까?(롬 3:10)
2. 예수를 믿을 때 심판 받지 않아 의롭게 인정되어 천국에 들어갑니다.
이 세상에 의인은 없습니다. 하나도 없습니다. 모두 죄인입니다. 그러면 죄는 어디서 옵니까? 죄를 지어서 죄인이 아닙니다. 재판을 받고 유죄 판결을 받아야 죄인이 됩니다. 하나님 앞에서도 누가 죄인입니까? 하나님의 심판을 받으면 그 어떤 사람도 죄인 아닌 자가 없습니다. 그러나 이 세상에서나 내세에서나 심판 받지 않으면 죄인이 아닙니다. 그러므로 우리는 하나님의 심판을 받지 않아야 합니다. 심판 받으면 죄가 나오고, 죗값으로 멸망 받기 때문입니다.
그러면 어떤 사람이 멸망을 받고, 또 구원을 받습니까? 요 3:16은 “독생자를 믿는 자마다 멸망치 않고 영생을 얻는다” 하셨고, 17절에서는 “예수로 말미암아 심판 받지 않고 구원을 받게 하려 하심이라”라고 하셨습니다. 그렇습니다. 예수를 믿음은 멸망 받지 않고 영생을 얻으려는 것입니다. 심판 받지 않고 구원을 얻으려고 믿습니다. 심판 받으면 왜 멸망입니까? 죄가 나오기 때문입니다. 심판 안 받으면 죄가 없고, 심판 받으면 죄가 있습니다. 그러면 천국은 누가 들어갑니까? 죄 없는 사람입니까? 아닙니다. 온갖 죄인들, 세리, 창녀, 살인강도, 그 외에 흉악한 죄인들도 천국에 들어갔습니다. 저들은 죄인이었으나 죄를 자복하고 회개하고, 예수를 믿으므로 심판을 받지 않아 의롭게 인정되고 천국에 들어간 것입니다. 그러므로 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 자에게는 결코 정죄함이 없습니다. 심판이 없으므로 정죄가 없는 것입니다(롬 5:8).
3. 영원한 생명은 무엇과도 비교할 수 없는 인생 최대의 사건입니다.
인간은 에덴동산에서 선악과를 따먹고 심판을 받아 하나님과의 교제가 단절되고 에덴동산에서 쫓겨났습니다. 그런데 예수를 보내셔서 그 심판을 면제받을 수 있는 은총을 주셨습니다. 그러나 이 은총을 거부할 때 벌써 받은 심판은 확정되어 버리는 것입니다.
하나님은 구원이냐, 심판이냐의 기회를 우리에게 한 번 주십니다. 성경은 이 사실을 요 3:19에서 말씀하고 있습니다. 빛이 세상에 왔으되 빛보다 어두움을 더 사랑한 것이 정죄입니다. 이 세상으로 참빛이신 예수께서 오셨습니다. 그분에게 나아오는 자는 생명이 있는 증거요 선한 자임을 증거합니다.
그러나 그리스도를 거부하는 자는 생명 없는 자요, 자기 안에 악함을 증거하는 것입니다(요 3:21). 이것이 곧 심판이요, 정죄입니다. 모든 사람이 죽은 후에 심판이 있는 것이 아니라, 그리스도를 향하여 저마다 생명과 죽음, 선과 악의 심판을 이미 결정하고 있는 것입니다. 그러므로 인생은 영원을 결정짓는 시기입니다. 이 생애에서 영원을 준비하기에 실패한다면 그의 모든 것은 성공한다 하여도 그 생은 실패인 것입니다.
따라서 이 땅에서의 생명은 사업이나 권세나 명예나 행복보다도 더 중요한 것입니다. 하물며 영원한 생명은 무엇으로도 비교할 수 없는 인생 최대의 사건입니다. 이러한 생명을 오직 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 얻는다면, 믿음은 곧 생명입니다. 믿음으로 구원을 얻고 영생을 얻습니다. 힘써도 안 되고, 참아도 안 되고, 울어도 안 되는 일이 오직 믿음으로는 가능한 것입니다.
결론:
지난날 우리 믿음의 선진들은 믿음을 인생의 전부로 알고 살았습니다. 믿음을 지키다 아벨은 죽었으며, 믿음으로 에녹은 하나님과 동행하다 죽음을 보지 않고 하늘로 옮겨졌으며, 믿음으로 노아는 방주를 만들고, 그의 식구들이 구원을 얻었습니다. 믿음으로 아브라함은 본토 친척 아비 집을 떠나고, 이삭을 바쳤습니다. 믿음으로 모세는 바로의 궁전을 떠났고, 자기 백성과 함께 받는 고난을 즐거움으로 알았습니다. 이들은 모두 믿음을 생명으로 알았고 인생 최대의 사건으로 알고 살았던 사람들입니다. 이제 그들의 믿음이 우리의 믿음이 되어야만 하겠습니다.
