Only Those Who are Wise will Understand
Matthew 24:1-22
In today’s scripture text, Jesus speaks about what will happen in the End times and its timespan. By citing the prophecy of Prophet Daniel especially, Jesus emphasizes on the need for us to understand what the prophecy of Prophet Daniel about the Last Days is all about. Prophet Daniel speaks of the latter half of the Great Suffering of 7 years as 1290 days and 1335 days, and what we especially focus on is the 45 day period from 1290 days to 1335 days. Let us share the grace together about the distinct features about this period and the secret to pass through it.
I. These 45 days is the period to avoid winter and the Sabbath.
It is stated in v20 of today’s scripture text, “Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.” Hence, the 45 day period from 1290 days to 1335 days means the following.
1) It is a suitable time to avoid winter or the Sabbath. This is the period that leads not just us but the selected believers of the earth so that they can avoid winter and the Sabbath. Therefore, we must pray for this. By changing the time and the timespan for those who pray, God will guide so that the Last Days will not be the winter or the Sabbath world-wide. When Joshua prayed, the Sun stayed on the sky above the Land of Gibeon and changed the time (Jos 10:12). Jesus also said in Lk 21:36, “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” What this means is that those who are always alert, on the watch and pray can easily avoid all incidents that is to come. Therefore, this period of 45 days is the time that God makes sure that the time of suffering will not be the winter or the Sabbath
2) It denotes the time of “Jacob’s suffering” and it is the time that frightening suffering will come upon us (Jer 30:7). During this time, 7 bowls will spill over as it is prophesied in the Book of Revelation, so it is the time that frightening suffering will come upon us. Therefore, if God does not subtract these days, no one can pass through (Mt 24:22). It is because it can collapse you by making you doubt at once what you have believed all your life and destroy your faith. Furthermore, the suffering during this time is a personal suffering so if each person is not standing upright before God, then no one can pass through this period.
3) This is the period that God will pour grace and love upon those who are specially selected. Because the wicked cannot understand anything, they won’t be able to pass through this time; however, it is the blessed time for the wise people who can rest in peace with grace and love that God pours upon them (Dan 12:10-13). That is why those who are wise like Daniel will
“rest in peace” during this time of suffering and then enjoy award and blessing that have been prepared for them in the End (Dan 12:13).
4) This is the period that one must wait with patience (Eze 12:22-25).The word of encouragement from Prophet Ezekiel in short is not to get exhausted by waiting during this time. Thus, in order for us to clearly understand and wait for the Word for our deliverance, those of us who are living in the Last Days must seek the Spirit of God, patiently wait with perseverance, and hold on to the Word until the end with the determination “I will see to its end.”
II. It is the time that Jesus will work as the Intercessor on the right side of God’s throne then will work as the Lord of Judgment.
It is said that after he was resurrected and ascended into heaven, our Lord is not sitting on the Seat of Glory but on the right side of the Throne. Jesus’ sitting on the right side of the Throne is not eternal but for temporary period until he puts the Satan under his feet (Mt 22:44, Ps 110:1). However, until this time is fulfilled, our Lord is praying with distressed heart and earnestly longs for this victorious time will come sooner, the time that the Satan will be defeated by his beloved children who believed him. Therefore, we must open the eyes of faith, understand Jesus’ distraught heart, and be strengthened with the Word and the grace He gave us so that we bear the victorious fruits of faith that surrenders the Satan. When that happens, our Lord will move from the right side of the Throne to the Seat of the Throne and will come as the Lord of Judgment for all mankind so that God’s work of redemption is perfected and completed and the blessing of transfiguration will be fulfilled. Therefore, Jesus said in Mt 26:64, “From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” This verse shows the image of Jesus as the Intercessor who sat on the right side of the Throne of Heaven to pray for us and at the same time, it also shows the image of the Lord of Judgment who comes with the clouds to judge us. Thus, the 45 day period from 1290 days to 1335 days is the time that Jesus puts on the Garment of the Priest and prays for us as the Intercessor; and when the Army of Michael arises like in Dan 12:1, he will come again to this earth as the Lord of Judgment who is the King of all kings and the Lord of lords (Rev 19:1-16). When Jesus comes again as the Lord of Judgment, it become the time that all curses written in the 4 Books of Gospel will be poured upon the wicked all at once, but it is the time that the righteous will be awarded.
Conclusion:
It is stated in Dan 12:12, “Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.” If this denotes the difficulties of waiting and the blessing for those who wait until the end, I sincerely hope that we all will reach the final destination by receiving and understanding the Spiritual Wisdom that God gives us.
오직 지혜 있는 자는 깨달으리라

본문은 예수님께서 종말에 될 일과 때에 관해서 말씀하고 있는 내용입니다. 특별히 다니엘 선지자의 예언을 인용하여 말씀하심으로써, 마지막 종말에 관한 다니엘 선지자의 예언이 무엇인가를 알 필요를 강조해 주고 있습니다. 다니엘 선지자는 마지막 후 삼 년 반의 환란 기간을 1,290일과 1,335일로 구분하여 말씀하고 있는데, 특별히 우리가 주목할 것은 1,290일에서 1,335일까지의 45일 기간으로, 이 기간의 특성과 이를 통과할 수 있는 비결에 대해 함께 은혜 나누도록 하겠습니다.
1. 45일은 겨울과 안식일을 피할 수 있는 기간입니다.
본문 20절에서 예수님은 “너희의 도망하는 일이 겨울에나 안식일에 되지 않도록 기도하라”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 그러므로 1,290일에서 1,335일에 이르는 45일의 기간은
1) 겨울이나 안식일을 피할 수 있는 좋은 기간입니다.
이 기간은 나 혼자만이 아니라 전 지구의 택한 성도들이 안식일과 겨울을 피할 수 있도록 인도해 주시는 기간입니다. 그러므로 우리는 이를 위해 기도해야만 합니다. 기도하는 자에게 하나님께서는 때와 기한을 변경해 주시므로, 마지막 때가 전 세계적으로 겨울이나 안식일에 해당하지 않는 때가 되도록 인도해 주시는 것입니다. 여호수아도 믿음으로 기도할 때 태양이 기브온 상공에 머물러 때를 변경해 주셨으며(수 10:12), 예수님께서도 눅 21:36에 “이러므로 너희는 장차 올 이 모든 일을 능히 피하고 인자 앞에 서도록 항상 기도하며 깨어 있으라”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 이 말은 항상 기도하며 깨어 있는 사람들은 장차 올 이 모든 일을 능히 피할 수 있다는 말입니다. 그러므로 45일의 기간은 하나님께서 환란의 때가 겨울이나 안식일이 되지 않도록 피할 수 있게 해 주시는 때인 것입니다.
2) ‘야곱의 환란 기간’으로, 무서운 환란이 임하는 기간입니다(렘 30:7).
이 기간 동안에 계시록에서 예언하고 있는 대로 일곱 대접이 다 쏟아지므로 무시무시한 환란이 임하게 되는 때입니다. 그러므로 하나님께서 그 날들을 감해 주지 않으시면 아무도 통과할 수 없습니다(마 24:22). 평생 믿은 것을 하루아침에 의심케 해서 떨어뜨리고 믿음을 파괴하기 때문입니다. 또한 이 기간의 환란은 개인적인 환란이므로, 한 사람 한 사람이 하나님 앞에 올바로 서 있지 못하면 절대 통과할 수 없는 시기이기도 합니다.
3) 택한 자를 위해서는 은혜와 사랑을 쏟아 주시는 기간입니다.
악한 자는 아무도 깨닫지 못하기 때문에 이 기간을 통과하지 못하지만, 지혜 있는 자는 하나님께서 부어 주시는 은혜와 사랑으로 평안히 지낼 수 있는 축복의 때입니다(단 12:10-13). 그래서 다니엘과 같이 지혜 있는 자는 이 환란의 기간에도 “평안히 쉬다가” 끝날 예비된 상급과 축복을 받아 누릴 수가 있는 것입니다(단 12:13).
4) 인내를 가지고 기다려야 하는 기간입니다(겔 12:22-25).
에스겔 선지자의 권면은 한마디로 이 기간 동안 기다림에 지치지 말라는 것입니다. 그러므로 말세에 사는 우리의 구원을 위하여 주신 말씀을 밝히 깨닫고 기다리기 위해서는 하나님께 지혜의 신을 구하고, 끈기 있게 기다려야 하며, 소망하며 끝까지 말씀을 붙잡고 ‘내가 끝장을 보고야 말겠다’ 하는 굳건한 각오로 살아가는 성도가 되어야 합니다.
2. 예수님이 보좌 우편에서 중보자로 역사하시다가 심판주로 역사하시는 기간입니다.
우리 주님은 부활, 승천하셔서 영광의 보좌 위에 앉으신 것이 아니라, 보좌 우편에 앉아 계시다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 예수님이 보좌 우편에 앉아 계시는 것은 영원토록이 아니라 사단을 발아래 짓밟을 때까지의 한시적인 기간 동안만입니다(마 22:44, 시 110:1). 하지만 이때가 이루어지기까지 주님은 안타까운 심령으로 기도하시며, 믿는 당신의 자녀들인 성도들을 통해 사단을 물리치는 승리의 때가 하루 빨리 앞당겨지기를 간절히 소원하고 있습니다.
그러므로 우리는 믿음의 눈을 떠서 예수님의 이처럼 안타까운 심령을 깨닫고, 주신 말씀과 은혜를 힘입어 모든 사단을 굴복시키는 승리적인 믿음의 열매를 맺어야겠습니다. 그렇게 될 때, 이제 주님은 보좌의 우편에서 보좌 위로 옮겨 앉으셔서 만인간의 심판의 주로서 임하시므로 하나님의 구원 역사가 완성되고, 변화의 축복이 이루어지는 것입니다.
그러므로 마 26:64에서 예수님께서는 “… 이 후에 인자가 권능의 우편에 앉은 것과 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 너희가 보리라”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 이 구절은 예수님께서 하늘 보좌 우편에 앉아 우리를 위해 기도해 주시는 중보자로서의 모습과, 하늘 구름을 타고 와서 우리를 심판하시는 심판자로서의 모습을 동시에 보여 주고 있습니다. 따라서 1,290일에서 1,335일의 45일 기간은, 예수님께서 하나님 우편에서 제사장의 옷을 입고 중보의 기도를 드리시다가, 단 12:1과 같이 미가엘 대군이 일어날 때는 만왕의 왕이요 만주의 주이신 심판의 주로서 이 땅에 다시 오시게 되는 때입니다(계19:11-16). 예수님께서 심판의 주로 다시 오실 때는 4복음서에 기록된 모든 저주가 악인들에게 한꺼번에 다 쏟아지지만 의인들에게는 보상을 해 주시는 때가 됩니다.
결론:
단 12:12에서는 “기다려서 1,335일에 이르는 그 사람은 복이 있으리라”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이것이 기다리는 것의 어려움과, 끝까지 기다린 자에게 주어지는 축복을 뜻하는 것이라면, 하나님께서 주시는 신령한 지혜를 받아 깨닫는 가운데 모두 다 마지막에 도달하는 성도님들이 되기를 축원합니다.
