If There is No Resurrection
1 Corinthians 15:1-19
There are many distinguished people or saints on this earth, but there is no one who resolved the issues of death. However, Jesus abolished the authority of death and resurrected in flesh and in spirit in order to resolve death. The living being within in Jesus and the Laws of the Spirit completely set us free who are bound by the chains of death and moved us from the domain of death to the domain of life. So what would have happened if there was no resurrection of Jesus?
I. If there is no resurrection, the work of Jesus that revived the people from death becomes a hoax.
In John 11, Jesus stopped by Bethany where dead Lazarus was and raised him from death who has been dead for 4 days. Like the Scripture that stated, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die,” Jesus testified that anyone will revive when he trusts His Word because He is the Lord of resurrection and the Lord of life. Prior to this incident, Jesus went to the widow of the town of Nain in Lk 7, stopped the funeral procession of her only son and told her that he is not dead but is asleep. Then Jesus raised him from death by saying, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” and brought him to his mother. Furthermore, Jesus spoke of a 12 year old daughter of Jairus the leader of synagogue and said, “She is not dead but asleep” (Lk 8) and raised her from death by saying, “Talitha koum!” which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” As you can see, Jesus revived 3 dead people during his public ministry. It is like when Jesus, the Lord of life and the Lord of everlasting life, personally went to Bethany the House of suffering, all pain, tears and agony were resolved instantly. This world is stained with tears, sighs, and death like Bethany, but it was put to an end because Jesus resurrected today. Hence, if there is no resurrection of Jesus, the work of resurrection that revived the dead will be annulled. However, not only Jesus revived the dead, but he was resurrected just like how he said, so he became our eternal hope and power.
II. If there is no resurrection, it is impossible to have a new work that divides the domain of death and the domain of life.
The resurrection of Jesus became the bifurcation point that divides the domain of life and the domain of death. Like what Apostle Paul said in 2 Cor 5:17, “if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come,” the resurrection of Jesus enabled us to crucify the old things on the cross and receive new things. The incident of Jesus’ resurrection testifies for amazing power and strength that moved the life of mankind which was under the power of death to the domain of life. Furthermore, the incidents of the birth of Jesus, the cross and his resurrection became new origin for new history. The new life of an individual will become new life of history. Now, those believers who received new life of resurrected Jesus will live different life than their past. They received the Citizenship of Heaven, so that their life as the people of heaven will unfold through the resurrection of Jesus (Php 3:20). Lastly, the resurrection of Jesus becomes the source of the New Seed. Like a kernel of wheat bears many fruits when it drops to the ground and dies (Jn 12:24), Jesus who is the Seed of Life dropped to the ground and died but was born again as the New Seed with the persistent gracious work of God. The work of re-creation that moved from the darkness to light and from hatred to love was accomplished by receiving new life allotted through the resurrection of Jesus. Hence, it there is no resurrection of Jesus, all these will be impossible and will be a hoax However, all this amazing work was accomplished through the resurrection of Jesus.
III. If there is no resurrection, the faith of those who trusted Jesus will be hoax as well.
Right before Jesus died when he was crucified on the cross; the robber on the right believed Jesus, reproached the robber on the left and spoke on behalf of Jesus. No matter what kind of wicked life he lived prior to this, he repented on the cross, reproached and evangelized for Jesus and at the end, he bore the fruits of faith by entrusting his flesh and spirit to Jesus. Not only that, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, went boldly to Pilate and requested for the body of Jesus and buried him. The Bible says, “He was a disciple of Jesus” (Mt 27:57). In the circumstances where Jesus’ 12 disciples all scattered and went separate ways, Joseph of Arimathea sought for the body of Jesus drenched in blood and properly buried him, and Jesus truly had no choice but to resurrect knowing the sincerity and the love of Joseph of Arimathea. Likewise, Mary Magdalene was a woman who was mocked by others as demon-possessed and was ostracized but she secured the cross until the end and was a first person to run to Jesus’ tomb at dawn and witnessed the resurrected Jesus. As you can see, the faith and sacrifice of those who followed and loved Jesus will be a hoax if there was no resurrection of Jesus. However, Jesus was resurrected in 3 days, appeared in peace and confirmed all their efforts, sacrifice and faith.
Conclusion:
The resurrection of Jesus will give us blessing to receive eternal inheritance of heaven that will not be weakened, perished, destroyed or disappeared. When we enjoy the new flesh and new history that received resurrection within the Lord through the resurrection of Jesus, I truly hope that there will be a fundamental change to transition from hatred to love, from despair to hope, from anxiety to peace, and from self-centered life to Jesus-centered life.
만일 부활이 없다면
고전 15:1-19
이 땅에 많은 위인이나 성인들이 있지만 죽음의 문제를 해결한 사람은 하나도 없습니다. 하지만 예수님께서는 죽음을 해결하시기 위해, 사망의 권세를 깨뜨리시고 영육 공히 부활하셨습니다. 그리스도 안에 있는 생령과 성령의 법이 사망의 쇠사슬에 묶여 있는 우리를 풀어서 완전히 해방해 주시고, 사망권에서 생명권으로 옮겨 주셨습니다. 그러니 만일 예수님의 부활이 없다면 어떻게 되겠습니까?
1. 만일 부활이 없다면 죽은 자를 살리신 주님의 역사는 거짓이 됩니다.
요 11장에서 예수님은 죽은 나사로가 있는 베다니에 들르셔서 죽은 지 나흘이나 된 나사로를 살리셨습니다. “나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고”라고 하신 말씀대로, 당신은 부활의 주요 생명의 주인이시기 때문에 당신의 말씀만 믿으면 어떠한 생명도 다시 살 수 있음을 증거해 주셨던 것입니다. 그 전에 눅 7장에서는 독자 잃은 나인 성 과부에게 가셔서 상여를 멈추게 하시고, 그 아들이 죽은 게 아니라 잔다고 말씀하셨습니다. 그리고는 “청년아 내가 네게 말하노니 일어나라”라는 말씀으로 그 청년을 다시 살리셔서 어머니의 품에 안겨 주셨습니다. 또한 눅 8장에서는 12살 된 회당장 야이로의 딸에 대해서도 “죽은 것이 아니라 잔다” 하시면서 “달리다굼” 즉 “소녀야 일어나라” 하시는 말씀으로 다시 살리셨습니다.
이처럼 예수님은 공생애 가운데 죽은 자들을 세 번 다시 살리셨습니다. 마치 고통의 집 베다니에 생명의 주, 영생의 주이신 예수님께서 직접 가시므로 그 모든 고통과 눈물과 괴로움을 순간 해결하셨던 것입니다. 이 세상은 바로 이러한 베다니와 같이 눈물과 한숨과 사망으로 얼룩져 있지만, 오늘 예수님께서 부활하심으로 종지부를 찍고 말았습니다. 그러니 만약 예수님의 부활이 없다면 죽은 자를 살리신 부활의 역사는 헛것이 되고 맙니다. 세상은 다시 고통의 집, 베다니로 전락하고 말 것입니다. 하지만 예수님께서는 죽은 자를 살리셨을 뿐 아니라 당신 자신이 말씀하신 대로 부활하심으로 우리의 영원한 소망과 능력이 되십니다.
2. 만일 부활이 없다면 사망권과 생명권을 나누는 새 역사도 불가능합니다.
예수님의 부활은 사망권과 생명권을 나눠 놓는 분수령이 되었습니다. 고후 5:17에서 “누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라”라고 한 사도 바울의 말씀처럼, 예수님의 부활은 옛것을 십자가에 못 박고 새것을 받게 해 주셨습니다. 예수님의 부활 사건은 죽음의 권세에서 생명권 내로 인간의 생명을 전환하는 놀라운 권세와 능력을 증거해 주는 것입니다.
또한 예수님의 탄생과 십자가와 부활 사건은 바로 새로운 역사의 신기원이 됩니다. 개인의 신생은 곧 역사의 신생입니다. 이제 예수님의 부활의 새 생명을 받은 성도들은 과거의 삶과 다른 새로운 역사의 삶을 살게 됩니다. 하늘의 시민권을 받아 천국 백성의 삶의 역사가 예수님의 부활을 통해 새롭게 펼쳐지게 된 것입니다(빌 3:20).
끝으로, 예수님의 부활은 새로운 종자의 기원이 됩니다. 한 알의 밀이 땅에 떨어져 죽으면 싹이 나서 많은 열매를 맺듯이(요 12:24), 생명의 종자이신 우리 주님께서 땅에 떨어져 죽었으나 하나님의 강권적인 은혜의 역사로 새로운 종자로 태어나게 되었습니다. 어둠에서 빛으로, 미움에서 사랑으로 옮겨지는 재창조의 역사가 예수님의 부활을 통해 허락하신 새로운 생명을 받으므로 이루어진 것입니다.
그러므로 만일 예수님의 부활이 없다면 이 모든 역사가 불가능하고 헛것이 되고 맙니다. 하지만 예수님은 부활로써 이 놀라운 역사를 다 이루셨습니다.
3. 만일 부활이 없다면 예수님을 믿었던 자들의 믿음도 헛것이 됩니다.
예수님께서 십자가에 달려서 운명하시기 직전에 우편 강도는 예수님을 믿고 좌편 강도를 꾸짖어 예수님을 변호했습니다. 그 전까지 그가 어떠한 죄악된 삶을 살았든지 간에, 십자가 상에서 자기 죄를 뉘우치고 예수님을 위해서 전도하고, 책망하고, 마지막에 자기 영육을 예수님께 의탁하는 믿음의 열매가 있었던 것입니다. 뿐만 아니라, 아리마대 요셉은 당시 공회원의 신분으로, 당당히 빌라도 앞에 나아가 예수님의 시체를 달라 하여 장사를 지내었습니다. 성경은 “그도 예수의 제자라”(마 27:57)라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 열두 제자가 모두 흩어져 도망가 버린 상황에서, 아리마대 요셉은 온 몸이 피투성이가 된 시신을 찾아서 장사지내었다면, 참으로 이런 아리마대 요셉의 정성과 사랑을 봐서라도 예수님은 부활을 안 하실 수가 없는 것입니다.
또한 막달라 마리아도 귀신들렸다고 많은 사람들에게 따돌림 받는 여자였지만, 끝까지 십자가를 지키고 새벽 미명에 가장 먼저 무덤에 달려가므로 부활하신 예수님을 목격했습니다. 이처럼 끝까지 예수님을 따르고 사랑했던 자들의 믿음과 헌신도 만약 예수님의 부활이 없다면 헛것이 되고 맙니다. 하지만 예수님은 3일 만에 부활하셔서 이들의 모든 수고와 헌신, 믿음을 확증해 주시고 평강 가운데 나타나셨던 것입니다.
결론:
예수님의 부활은 썩지 않고 쇠하지 않고 망하지 않고 없어지지 않는 하늘의 영원한 기업을 받게 하는 축복을 주십니다. 예수님의 부활을 통해 이제 주 안에서 부활 받는 새로운 몸, 새로운 역사를 누릴 때 미움에서 사랑으로, 절망에서 소망으로, 불안에서 평안으로, 나의 생각과 나 중심에서 예수 그리스도 중심으로 새롭게 전환되는 본질적인 변화가 일어나기를 바랍니다.
