Let us be the ones who see and understand the future.
While reading the Word of God, Prophet Daniel realized that the Babylonian captivity would end after 70 years; so, he stayed alert to prepare for the future with prayers. In this sense, the Word and prayer are like one body, inseparable from each other, like the left and right foot when walking (1Tim 4:5). As we read the Book of Daniel, we should understand the meaning of the 70-weeks that God spoke to Daniel about so that we can prepare for the future.
I. The mighty power of prayer that opens the gates of heaven.
From today’s Scripture text, we can see that Prophet Daniel was a man of prayers. His prayer was a confession of “his sin and the sin of his people Israel” (Dan 9:20). Every time he prayed, God sent Gabriel to give him “insight and understanding” (Dan 9:22). Likewise, a prayer is like the key that opens the gates of heaven and bring answers of blessing. When Jesus prayed on the Mount of Transfiguration, the answer came from heaven saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Mt 17:5). Moreover, as Jesus prayed in Jn 12:28, “Father, glorify your name!” there was a thunder-loke voice from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again,” It is said that when Prophet Elijah prayed earnestly to God, “it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again, he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops” (Jam 5:17-18). As such, a prayer has the mighty power to open the gates of heaven. If the prayer of one person such as Elijah has the power to open and close the gates of heaven, then the prayer of one awaken saint has the power to break the 38th parallel and hasten the Day of the Lord on earth. God gave the same grace to Prophet Daniel. When he prayed, he was answered through the archangel Gabriel, who brought him the tidings of joy; and God revealed the “time” that would take place in the End Times by speaking to him about the mystery of the 70-weeks.
II. The work of the End Times set by the 70-weeks.
As God spoke to Prophet Daniel about the 70-weeks through the archangel Gabriel, He said, “Know and understand this” (Dan 9:25). These 70-weeks are divided into 7-weeks, 62-weeks, and the last 1-week, which is further halved where the sacrifice and offering will be put to an end and the one who causes desolation will come upon the wing of the abominable temple, until the end that is decreed is poured out on the desolated city in the middle of the ‘seven.’ From this, we can see that 70-weeks are classified into three main periods. The first 7-weeks and the 62-weeks refer to the period from the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes. Then, before the coming of the last 1-week, the Anointed One will be put to death, the city and the sanctuary will be destroyed. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed. After that, it is prophesied that the last 1-weel will come where the wrath will be poured out in the middle. Here, 1-week refers to one week or seven days. Furthermore, since a day often refers to a year in the Bible (Num 14:34), 1-week would be seven years, and 7-weeks would be 49 years if we count 1-day as 1-year. Thus, 62-weeks would be 434 years. These numbers can refer to the actual physical times in history, or they can be symbolic, as in the case of the last 1-week.
III. The spiritual meaning of the 7-weeks which means the construction of the true temple.
What we need to consider in connection with the first 7-weeks is the construction of the temple during Jesus’ public ministry. Early in His ministry, Jesus cleared the temple and said, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (Jn 2:19). This is in reference to his own flesh, which is a temple. However, even the disciples did not understand the meaning of this during His ministry, but were able to understand it only after Jesus was resurrected (Jn 2:21-22). We have to understand the meaning of the true temple here. When God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, there was no visible temple; however, we can say that Adam himself, where the Word of God and His Spirit are present, is the true temple of God. That is why Apostle Paul said, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?” (1Cor 3:16, 6:19). On this biblical basis, Jesus testified to His disciples about Him which is a true temple, rather than a visible temple. Moreover, the completion of the true temple is fulfilled not by what King Herod built for 46 years, but it is possible when Jesus is fully accepted. If we were to apply this to the prophecy of the 7-weeks of Prophet Daniel, the content of the meaning of 7-weeks or 49 years will be truly filled when the 46-years of the Herod Temple construction period is combined with the period of Jesus’ public ministry. At the first coming of Jesus, the temple that had been built for 46 years was destroyed and ruined because the people rejected Jesus, but we must fulfill the will of the 7-weeks (49) by accepting it in the End Times.
Conclusion
Jesus forgave our sins and fulfilled salvation by tearing His flesh, which is the true temple, and shedding His precious blood on the cross. This is also the process of redemptive history fulfilling the Word of the 7-weeks that was prophesied to Prophet Daniel. We need to realize that the true fulfillment of the Word is done through the New Covenant, which said, “I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts” (Heb 8:10) and stay alert in Scriptures and prayers like Daniel.
미래를 보고 깨닫는 자가 되자
다니엘 선지자는 하나님의 말씀을 상고하다가 바벨론 유수 기간이 70년이 차면 끝난다는 사실을 깨닫고, 그 이후를 준비하기 위해 깨어 기도하였습니다. 이를 볼 때, 말씀과 기도는 사람이 걸으 며 앞발과 뒷발을 내딛는 것처럼 서로 뗄수 없는 한 몸과도 같습니 다(딤전 4:5). 우리도 다니엘서를 읽는 가운데 하나님께서 다니엘에게 말씀하신 70이레의 뜻을 깨달아, 미래를 내다보고 준비하는 성도가 되어야겠습니다.
1. 하늘 문을 여는 강력한 기도의 힘
오늘 본문을 볼 때, 다니엘 선지자는 기도의 사람임을 알 수 있습 니다. 그의 기도는 내 죄와 및 내 백성 이스라엘의 죄”를자복하는 기도였습니다(단 9:20). 기도할 때 하나님은 가브리엘을 보내어 ‘지혜 와 총명 (단 9:22)을 주셨습니다. 이처럼 기도는 하늘 문을 열어 축복 의 응답을 가져오는 열쇠와 같습니다. 예수님께서도 변화산에서 기도하실 때, “이는 내 사랑하는 아들이요 내 기뻐하는 자니 너희는 저의 말을 들으라”(마 17:5)라는 응답이 하늘로부터 들려왔습니다. 또한, 요 12:28에서도예수님께서 “아버지 여 아버지의 이름을 영광스럽게 하옵소서”라고 기도할 때, “내가 이 미 영광스럽게 하였고 또다시영광스럽게 하리라”라는 응답의 음성 이 우렛소리처럼 들렸습니다. 엘리야 선지자도 하나님께 간절히 기도할 때 삼 년 육 개월 동안 땅에 비가 아니 오고 다시 기도한즉 하늘이 비를 주고 땅이 열매를 내었느니라(약 5:17-18)라고 하였습니다. 이처럼 기도는 하늘 문을 여는 강력한 힘이 있습니다. 엘리야 한 사람의 기도가 하늘 문을 여 닫는 강력한 힘이 있다면, 깨어 있는성도 한 사람의 기도가 38선을 무너뜨리고 주의 날을 이 땅에 속히 이루는 힘이 있습니다. 하나님은 다니엘 선지자에게도 이와 같은 은혜를 주셨습니다. 그가 기도할 때, 기쁨의 소식을 전하는 가브리엘 천사장을통해 응답해 주 시고. 더불어 700레의 비밀을 말씀해 주심으로 종말에 될 때’에 관 해 계시해 주셨던 것입니다.
2. 700레로 정하신 종말의 역사
하나님은 가브리엘 천사장을 통해 다니엘 선지자에게 70 이레에 대한 말씀을 전하시면서 ‘너는 깨달아 알지어다 (단9:25)라고 하셨습 니다. 이 700레는 첫 일곱 이레와 육십이 이레, 그리고 마지막 한 이레는 각각 반으로 나뉘어, 이레의절반에는 제사와 예물을 금지하 며, 잔포하여 미운 물건이 날개를 의지하며 설 것이며, 정한 종말까 지 진노가 쏟아지다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이를 볼 때 70이레는 크게 세 시기로 구분되어 있습니다. 처음 일곱 이레와 육십이 이레는 예루살렘을 중건하라는 영이 날 때부터 기름 부 음을 받은 자곧 왕이 일어나기까지의 기간을 가리킵니다. 그리고 마 지막 한 이레가 도래하기 전에 기름 부음을 받은 자가 끊어져 없어지 고, 그 성읍과 성소가 훼파되고, 종말이 홍수에 엄몰됨 같고, 전쟁이 있어 황폐할 것이 작정되었다고 말씀합니다. 그 후에 마지막 한 이레 가 도래하되 그 절반의 시기에 진노가 쏟아진다고 예언하고 있습니다. 여기서 한 이레는 1주일, 즉 7일을 가리킵니다. 그리고 성경에서 하 루는 1년을 가리키는 경우가 많으므로(민 14:34) 하루를 1년으로 계산 할 때 한 이레는 7년을, 일곱 이레는 49년을 가리킵니다. 62이레는 434년이 됩니다. 이러한 숫자는 역사적으로 실제 물리적인 시간을 가 리키기도 하고, 마지막 한 이레의 경우처럼 상징적인 의미를 가지기도 합니다.
3. 참성전 건축을 뜻하는 일곱 이레의 영적 의미
처음 일곱 이레와 관련해서 상고할 것은 예수님의 공생애 사역 중 성전 건축에 대한 내용입니다. 예수님은 공생애 초기에성전 정화를 행하시며, ‘헤롯 성전을 헐면 내가 사흘 동안에 일으키겠다’고 말씀하 셨습니다(요 2:19). 이는 성전 된 자기육체를 가리켜 말씀하신 것입니 다. 하지만 공생애 기간에는 제자들도 이 말씀의 의미를 깨닫지 못하 다가, 예수님께서부활하신 후에야 알게 되었습니다(요 2:21-22) 여기서 우리는 참성전의 의미를 깨달아야 합니다. 에덴동산에 하나 님께서 아담과 하와를 두셨을 때, 그곳에 보이는 성전은 없었지만, 하 나님의 말씀과 영이 있는 아담 자신이 하나님의 참성전이라 할 수 있 습니다. 그래서 사도 바울은 “너희 몸은 너희가 하나님께로부터 받은 바 너희 가운데 계신 성령의 전인 줄을 알지 못하느냐?”(고전 3:16, 6:19)라고 말씀하셨던 것입니다. 이러한 성경적 터전 위에서, 예수님은 보이는 성전보다 참성전 된 자신을 제자들에게 증거하셨습니다. 그리고 참된 성전의 완성은, 헤롯 왕이 46년 동안이나 지었지만 그것으로 완성되는 것이 아니라, 예수님 을 온전히 모실 때 가능한 것입니다. 이를 다니엘 선지자의 일곱 이레 의 계시에 적용하면, 헤롯왕이 건축한 46년의 기간에 예수님의 공생애 3년의 의미가 온전히 결합할 때 일곱 이레, 즉 49년의 내용이 채워지 게 됩니다. 초림 때는 예수님을 배척하므로 46년간지은 성전이 다 무 너지고 깨지고 말았지만, 마지막 때에는 온전히 모심으로 일곱 이레의 뜻(49)을 성취해야 합니다.
결론
예수님은 참성전인 당신의 육체를 십자가에서 깨뜨려 거룩한 피를 흘리심으로 우리의 죄를 사하시고 구원을 이루셨습니다. 이는 다 니엘 선지자에게 계시하신 일곱 이레의 말씀을 성취하는 구속사의 과 정이기도 합니다. 진정한 말씀의성취는 “내 법을 저희 생각에 두고 저희 마음에 이것을 기록하리라”(히 8:10) 하신 새 언약을 통해 이루어 짐을 깨닫고, 다니엘처럼 말씀과 기도로 깨어 있어야 합니다.
