Who is enrobed with spiritual garment?
It is stated that blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so he is not to go naked and be shamefully exposed when the Lord comes again. A garment does not simply refer to clothing but also refers to our conduct and the fruit of our faith. Hence, I sincerely hope that we all become the saints who will not expose our shame and put on the garment of righteousness and the garment of glory that the Lord gives us through today’s message.
I. He who has taken off the deeds of darkness is enrobed with spiritual garments.
Literally, you have to take off what you are wearing before you can change into a new outfit. Likewise, we must first take off the garment of darkness in order for us to put on the spiritual garment that the Lord gives us. The garment of darkness refers to all of our deeds conducted in sin. The Prophet Isaiah referred to the End Times when the Lord returns as, “The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days” (Isa 30:26). When the light of glory is seven times brighter than the sunlight, no darkness can exist. To be guided by such light means to put on spiritual garments. Since God is light; in him there is no darkness at all (1Jn 1:5), Jesus came as the light of the world (Jn 1:4-5). This light is the spiritual garment we mustput on. When the LORD comes, He will come with “fire” (Isa 66:15), will strike the earth with the ‘rod of His mouth’ (Isa 11:4), and will search and judge us with His eyes that are like ‘blazing fire’ (Rev 1:14). All inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the ‘Lamb’s book of life’ will worship the beast (Rev 13:8). However, because those whose names are written in the book of life are enrobed with spiritual garments, the Lord will strip off the garment of darkness and will protect them with the fire of glory.
II. He who is enrobed with spiritual garment is unwavering.
In the End times, God will judge both the powers of darkness and the powers of Satan. It is stated in Rev 16:1 that God commanded the seven angels to pour out the seven bowls of His wrath on the earth. When God’s terrifying bowl of judgment is poured out, the great city of Babylon will be split into three parts and will be collapsed forever (Rev 16:19). At this time, all those who dwell on the earth are bound to tremble with fear and be doomed. Such uproars are not only directed literally at the land we live on and against the powerful people of the world. It refer the faith of the saints that is greatly shaken and causes them to stumble in their walk of faith. When the fourth angel sounded his trumpet, a “third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them” turned dark (Rev 8:12). The saints who stand firm in the faith without wavering are those who are enrobed with spiritual garments. Joseph was a man of such faith. As the general manager for the house of Potiphar, Joseph was in charge of everything, so he was in a position to embezzle money behind his master’s back. However, Joseph’s faith never wavered. He was not swayed when he was tempted by Potiphar’s wife. Today is the era that money speaks. However, the entire world will live when a person like Joseph who has received the Word speaks. Like Joseph, only those who stand firm and unwavering in faith are enrobed with spiritual garments wherever they are. The Apostle Paul said, “Let us put aside the deeds of darkness… and clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 13:12-14). To be clothed with Christ means to be “baptized into Christ” (Gal 3:27). Joseph triumphed over this ‘trial.’ The church does not know when it is at peace; however, it is only when there is a time of testing and things become chaotic that we can distinguish who the true believers are. James said, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him” (Jam 1:12). It was Joseph who passed this test
III. Those who are enrobed with spiritual garment rely only on God.
When Ammon and Moab joined forces to attack Jehoshaphat, King Jehoshaphat was able to defeat them when he appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise Him for the “splendor of His holiness” as they went out at the head of the army (2Chr 20:21-22). This act of King Jehoshaphat is not an act of relying on the worldly armies or strength but faith to rely only on God. Like the Prophet Isaiah who testified, “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help” (Isa 31:1), we must live a life of faith to rely and trust only on God and His Word. It is stated that when the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, it turned into blood like that of a dead person (Rev 16:3). Here, the sea refers to the ‘corrupted world.’ In the End Times, the sea or this world in which we live in will become a land of blood like that of a dead person; so, how will we be delivered without relying on God? If we do not put on spiritual garment but rely on worldly powers, we will perish like King Herod who was ‘eaten by worms and died’ (Acts 12:23). We will die of a terrifying disease (pestilence) (Jer 21:5-7). God afflicted both young and old with an outbreak of ‘tumors’ (1Sam 5:9, Exo 9:9-11). However, even in the land of Egypt, the Israelites who were enrobed with spiritual garments were not covered with the ashes of the furnace, and they were spared from an outbreak of tumors.
Conclusion
The ‘spiritual garment’ is the garment of God’s grace. It is not an outcome of our efforts, abilities, or worldly powers. Like Joseph who was enrobed with a garment of many colors in the love of his father, I sincerely hope that all of you will be enrobed with the spiritual garment of many colors that God gives you today and strip off all the deeds of darkness.
신령한 옷을 입은 자 누구냐?
주님 다시 오실 때 깨어서 자기 옷을 지켜, 벌거벗고 다니지 아니하는 사람이 복이 있다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 옷은 단순히 의복 을 가리키는 것이 아니라, 우리의 행실과 믿음의 열매를 가리킵니다.
따라서 오늘 말씀을 통해, 우리의 부끄러움을 보이지 않고 주님께서 주시는 의의옷, 영광의 옷을 다 입는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.
1. 어둠의 일을 벗은 자가 신령한 옷을 입은 자입니다.
문자적으로도, 새 옷을 입으려면 지금까지 입고 있던 옷을 벗어야 갈아입을 수가 있습니다. 마찬가지로, 주님께서 주시는 신령한 옷을 입으려면, 종래 우리가 입고 있던 어둠의 옷을 먼저 벗어야 합니다.
어둠의 옷이란 곧 죄악 가운데서 행한 우리의 모든 일을 가리킵니다.
이사야 선지자는 주님께서 다시 오시는 종말의 때를 가리켜, “달빛 은 햇빛 같겠고 햇빛은 칠 배가 되어 일곱 날의 빛과 같으리라”(사
30:26)라고 하였습니다. 태양 빛보다 칠 배나 환한 영광의 빛이 비치 면 어떤 어둠도 존재할 수가 없습니다. 이러한 빛의 인도함을 받는 것이 바로 신령한 옷을 입는 것입니다. 하나님은 빛이시고 그에게는 어둠이 조금도 없으시므로(요일 1:5). 예수님은 사람들의 빛으로 오셨 습니다(요 1:4-5). 이 빛이 바로 우리가 입어야 할 신령한 옷입니다.
주께서 강림하실 때 불에 옹위되어”(사 66:15) 오시며, 그 입의 막대기(사 11:4)로 세상을 치며, ‘불꽃 같은 눈'(계 1:14)으로 우리를 살피사 심판하시는 하나님입니다. ‘어린양의 생명책•(계 13:8)에 녹명 되지 못하고 이 땅에 사는 자는 다 짐승에게 경배하게 됩니다. 그러 나 생명책에 녹명된 자들은 신령한 옷을 입었기 때문에 주께서 어둠 의 옷을 다 벗기시고, 영광의 불로 우리를 지켜 주시고 덧입혀 주십 니다.
2. 신령한 옷을 입은 자는 요동치 않는 사람입니다.
마지막 때는 하나님께서 이 세상 어둠의 권세와 사단의 세력을 다 심판하십니다. 계 16:1 이하에 보면, 일곱 천사에게 명령하여 진노의 일곱 대접을 땅에 쏟으라고 하였습니다. 하나님의 무서운 심판의 대 접이 쏟아질 때, 큰 성 바벨론도 세 갈래로 갈라져 영원히 멸망하고 맙니다(계 16:19).
이때 땅에 거하는 자들은 다 두려움에 떨며 망할 수밖에 없습니다.
이러한 요동은 문자적으로 우리가 사는 땅과 세상 권세자들을 향한 것만이 아닙니다. 바로 성도의 믿음이 크게 요동쳐서 신앙의 길에서 넘어지는 일이 일어나게 됩니다. 넷째 천사가 나팔을 불 때 “해 삼분의 일과 달 삼분의 일과 별들의 삼분이 일이 침을 받아 그 삼분의 일(계 8:12)이 어두워지는 일이 일어나게 됩니다. 이때 흔들리지 않고 믿음에 굳게 서 있는 성도가 신령한 옷을 입은 자입니다.
요셉이 바로 그러한 신앙인입니다. 요셉은 보디발의 집에서 살림을 맡은 총무로서 모든 물질까지 맡았으므로, 얼마든지 주인 눈치 살피지 않고도 돈을 떼어먹을 수 있는 위치에 있었습니다. 하지만 요셉의 믿 음은 결코 요동치지 않았습니다. 보디발의 아내의 유혹에도 흔들리지 않았습니다. 오늘날 세상은 돈이 말하는 때입니다. 그러나 요셉처럼 말 씀을 받은 인격이 말할 때가 와야 전 세계가 살게 됩니다. 요셉처럼, 어디에 있든지 믿음으로 흔들리지 않는 굳건한 신앙에 서 있는 사람만 이 신령한 옷을 입게 됩니다.
사도 바울은 어둠의 일을 벗고 … 그리스도로 옷 입으라'(롬 13:12-14)라고 말씀하였습니다. 그리스도로 옷 입는다는 것은, 곧 “그리 스도와 합하여 세례를 받는 것”(갈 3:27)을 말합니다. 요셉은 이러한 ‘시험’에서 승리하였습니다. 교회도 평안할 때는 모르지만, 한번 뒤집 어지는 시험의 때가 있어야, 회색분자인지 진짜 믿는 사람인지 알 수 있게 됩니다. 야고보는 “시험에 참는 자는 복이 있도다 이것에 옳다 인정하심을 받은 후에 주께서 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 생 명의 면류관을 얻을 것임이니라”(약 1:12)라고 하였습니다. 이 시험에 합격한 사람이 요셉입니다.
3. 신령한 옷을 입은 자는 하나님만을 의지합니다.
암몬과 모압이 결탁하여 여호사밧을 치려 할 때. 여호사밧왕은 노래 하는 자를 택하여 “거룩한 예복”을 입히고, 군대 앞에서 여호와를 찬 송케 했을 때(대하 20:21-22) 적군을 물리칠 수 있었습니다. 여호사밧 왕의 이러한 행위는 곧, 세상 군대나 힘을 의지하는 것이 아니라 하나 님만을 의지하는 신앙입니다. 도움을 구하려 애굽으로 내려가는 자들 은 화 있을진저”(사 31:1)라고 증거한 이사야 선지자의 말씀과 같이, 우리는 온전히 하나님만을 믿고 말씀만 의지하는 삶을 살아야 합니다.
둘째 천사가 대접을 바다에 쏟을 때 곧 바다가 죽은 자의 피같이 된 다고 하였습니다(계 16:3). 여기서 바다는 ‘타락한 세상’을 가리킵니다.
마지막 때 우리가 살아가는 이 세상 바다가 피같이 죽은 자의 땅이 되 는데, 하나님을 의지하지 않고 어떻게 건심을 받을 수 있겠습니까?
신령한 옷을 입지 못하고 세상 권세를 의지하면, ‘충이 먹어’ 죽은 헤롯왕처럼(행 12:23) 망하게 됩니다. 무시무시한 질병(염병)으로 죽게 됩니다(렘 21:5-7). 하나님께서 작은 자와 큰 자를 다 치셔서 ‘독종'(삼 상 5:9, 출 9:9-11)이 나게 하십니다. 그러나 애굽 땅에서도, 신령한 옷을 입은 이스라엘 백성에게는 풀무의 재가 붙지 않아 그 독종이 다 피해 갔습니다.
결론
신령한 옷’은 하나님의 은혜의 옷입니다. 우리의 공로나 능력 이나 세상 권세가 아닙니다. 요셉이 아버지의 사랑 속에 채색옷을 입 었듯이, 오늘 하나님께서 주시는 신령한 채색옷을 입고 어둠의 일을 다 벗어 던지는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.
