God Who is with Each and Every One of Us
Christianity is a religion of experience. Hence, wherever the Word went, it ignited light on the spirits that had been extinguished, and the Word was strengthened, spread widely and grew in power. Even in today’s Scripture text, our living God promises us that He will be with us. When Jesus said, “The one who sent me is with me,” it means that like God who sent Jesus to this earth was with him at all times, Jesus who sent us promises to walk with us and protect us. If so, what type of life have you lived today? I sincerely hope that all of you will always perform the duties that God who walks with you is pleased with.
I. The forefathers of Faith who walked with the Lord
In order to receive the blessing to walk with the Lord, let us first examine the faith of the forefathers of faith in the Old Testament who walked with God. Enoch represents a man of faith in the Old Testament who walked with God. It is stated in Gen 5:22, “After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God for 300 years and had other sons and daughters.” When it said, “he had other sons and daughters,” it tells us that Enoch got married like a typical person and experienced the same pain and hardship associated with having a family and rearing children. Nevertheless, Enoch was not bound by the reality but always walked with God for 300 years without ever leaving Him. The secret to this is explained in Heb 11:5 as “Enoch was commended as one who pleased God.” Like you see in today’s Scripture text where God did not leave Jesus alone as he always has done what is pleasing to God, Enoch did not see death but was taken up to heaven due to the fact that he was commended as the one who pleased God while he was on this earth. The fact that Enoch was taken up to heaven without seeing death is also a powerful declaration that tells us there is a better world than this world. Another person who walked with God in the Old Testament was David. It is written in 1Sam 16:18 “The LORD is with him” to prove clearly that God is with David. There is a reason why God was with David. It is because there was faith in David that did not harm King Saul until the end who tried to kill him, because King Saul was anointed servant of God. Such action of David became a joy to God that Acts 13:22 records, “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.” Hence, what is common between these people who walked with God is the fact that they were commended by faith as the one who pleased God while they were here on this earth.
II. The special characteristics about the lives that walk with God
There is no other blessing greater than God walks with you. “God is with me” means that He will work with me. When God Almighty stays with our lives and families, helps us and becomes our Head of household, then we will be blessed whether we go out or come in. That is why God comforts us by saying, “Do not worry. Do not be afraid. Take courage.” At the same time, God firmly promises once again that He will not leave us alone. A person was not created to live alone on this earth from the time he was born. It is because loneliness is the most frightening enemy that poisons the lives of the people. That is why God created a helper. Likewise, God does not leave us alone but always walks with us and protects us. If so, what kind of life is the life that walks with God? First, it is to uphold the Will of Father God who is in heaven as it is stated in Mt 7:21-23. God will give strength and peace to such people (Ps 29:11). Second, a life to walk with God means an attitude to come near God and always stand before Him. A humble heart to always come near God, an attitude to stand before God with absolute obedience, “Please speak your command,” and to stand before God and not on His sides or His back are the examples of a life that walks with God. Such people will not be challenged by conscience. Moreover, a life with God means a life with Jesus Christ. As it is stated in 1Jn 4:13, it is a life that “we live in Him and He in us.” There is no left or right in such people. They always seek only the face of God and live Word-centered lives. When we are faced with difficulties or hardships while we live on this earth, we tend to seek people and their aid, but if we the saints that walk with God seek only the face of God even during such times, we will receive the blessing of problem resolution from the grace given from above. Lastly, those who walk with God will receive the blessing of abundance that there is no insufficiency. Because the apple of God’s eyes will never leave such people, they will receive the blessing of abundance and prosperity because every request is answered (2Chr. 7:11-16).
Conclusion:
Today’s message tells us that the secret of walking with God is to please Him above all else. If so, what should we please God with? First, He is pleased with repentance (Ps 34:18, Isa 57:15). Second, God is most pleased with faith as it is stated in Heb 11:6. Moreover, God is pleased with obedience (1Sam 15:22), thanksgiving (Ps 50:23) and loyalty (Mt 25:23). God will never leave them alone but will be pleased with those who obey His Word in everything they do and live a life of thanksgiving and loyalty in accordance with the faith to trust Him.
각자 나와 함께하시는 하나님
기독교는 체험의 종교입니다. 그래서 말씀이 가는 곳마다 꺼져 가는 심령들에 불을 붙이고, 말씀이 세력을 얻고 힘을 얻어 흥왕하게 되는 것입니다. 오늘 본문 말씀을 볼 때도 살아 계시는 하나님께서 우리와 함께해 주신다고 약속하고 있습니다. “나를 보내신 이가 나와 함께 하신다”는 말은, 이 땅에 예수를 보내셨던 하나님께서 늘 그와 함께하셨던 것처럼, 우리를 이 땅에 보내신 예수님께서 마찬가지로 우리와 동행하시고 우리를 보호해 주신다는 약속의 말씀인 것입니다. 그렇다면, 오늘 하루 어떠한 삶을 살았습니까? 나와 동행해 주시는 하나님 보시기에 늘 기뻐하시는 일을 행하는 성도님들이 되시기를 바라겠습니다.
1. 주와 동행한 믿음의 선진들
주와 동행하는 삶의 축복을 받기 위해, 먼저 구약성경에서 하나님과 동행했던 믿음의 선진들의 신앙을 살펴보기로 하겠습니다. 구약에서 하나님과 동행했던 대표적인 신앙 인물은 에녹입니다. 창 5:22에 에녹은 “므두셀라를 낳은 후 300년을 하나님과 동행하며 자녀를 낳았다”고 말씀하고 있습니다.
자녀를 낳았다는 것은, 보통 사람들과 같이 결혼하여 가정을 꾸리고 자녀를 양육하며 겪는 고통과 어려움을 똑같이 겪었음을 말해 줍니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 에녹은 현실의 삶에 얽매이지 않고 300년 동안 하나님을 떠난 적이 없이 늘 동행했던 것입니다. 그 비결을 히 11:5에서는 에녹이 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 자라는 증거를 얻었기 때문이라고 말씀하고 있습니다.
오늘 본문에서 예수님께서도 늘 하나님의 기뻐하시는 일만 행하였을 때 하나님께서 혼자 두지 아니하셨던 것처럼, 에녹도 이 땅에서 사는 동안 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 자로 증거함을 받은 결과로 죽지 않고 변화하여 하늘로 올라가게 되었던 것입니다. 에녹이 죽지 않고 하늘로 올라갔다는 것은 이 세상보다 더 좋은 세계가 있다는 것을 우리에게 알려 주시는 폭탄적인 선언이기도 합니다.
구약에서 하나님과 동행한 또 다른 인물은 ‘다윗’입니다. 삼상 16:18에 “여호와께서 그와 함께 계시더이다”라고 하나님께서 다윗과 함께하심을 분명히 증거하고 있습니다. 이처럼 하나님께서 다윗과 함께하신 데는 다 이유가 있습니다. 자신을 죽이려 하는 사울왕을 하나님의 기름 부은 종이라 하여 끝까지 해하지 않는 믿음이 있었기 때문입니다.
이러한 다윗의 행동이 하나님께 얼마나 기쁨이 되었는지, 행 13:22에서는 “다윗을 만나니 내 마음에 합한 자라”고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이처럼 하나님과 동행한 사람들의 공통점은 이 땅에서 믿음으로 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 증거를 가졌던 것을 볼 수 있습니다.
2. 하나님과 동행하는 생활의 특징
하나님께서 나와 함께해 주시는 축복보다 더 큰 축복은 없을 것입니다. ‘나와 함께하시도다’는 말은 하나님께서 우리와 동업을 해 주신다는 뜻입니다. 전능하신 하나님께서 우리의 생애와 가정과 함께하셔서 도와주시고 또 가장이 되어 주셔서 나가나 들어오나 복을 받게 되는 것입니다. 그래서 하나님은 우리에게 “걱정하지 말라, 안심하라, 두려워 말라” 위로해 주시는 것입니다. 이는 동시에 우리를 혼자 두지 않겠다는 말씀으로 다시 한번 굳게 약속해 주셨습니다.
사람은 이 땅에 태어날 때 혼자 살 수 있도록 지음 받지 않았습니다. 고독이라고 하는 것은 인생을 병들게 하는 가장 무서운 적이기 때문입니다. 그래서 돕는 배필을 지으셨던 것입니다. 마찬가지로, 하나님은 우리를 혼자 두지 아니하고 늘 동행해 주시며 보호해 주시는 것입니다. 그러면 하나님과 동행하는 생활은 어떠한 생활일까요?
먼저, 마 7:21-23의 말씀처럼 하늘에 계신 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 생활입니다. 이러한 백성에게는 하나님께서 힘을 주시고 평강을 주십니다(시 29:11). 둘째, 하나님과 동행하는 생활은 날마다 하나님 앞에 나아가며, 하나님 앞에 서는 태도를 말합니다. 늘 하나님 앞에 나아가는 겸손한 마음, 또한 하나님 앞에 서서 ‘말씀만 하옵소서’ 하는 절대 순종의 태도, 하나님의 옆이나 뒤가 아니라 앞에 서서 살아가는 삶이 바로 하나님과 동행하는 삶입니다. 이러한 삶을 사는 사람들은 양심의 가책을 받지 않습니다.
또한 하나님과 동행하는 삶은 예수 그리스도를 모시고 사는 삶을 말합니다. 요일 4:13 말씀과 같이 “우리가 그의 안에 거하고 그가 우리 안에 거하시는” 삶입니다. 이러한 사람은 좌우가 없습니다. 언제나 말씀 중심으로 오직 하나님의 얼굴을 구하는 생활을 하는 사람입니다. 우리가 이 땅을 살아가면서 어떠한 어려움이나 괴로운 일이 생길 때 사람을 찾고, 사람의 도움을 구하려 하지만, 하나님과 동행하는 성도는 그러한 때에도 오직 하나님의 얼굴을 찾고 구할 때 위로부터 주시는 은혜로 문제해결의 축복을 받게 되는 것입니다.
끝으로 하나님과 동행하는 삶은 모자람이 없이 늘 풍부한 삶의 축복을 받게 됩니다. 왜냐하면 하나님의 눈동자가 그러한 자들에게서 결코 떠나지 않기 때문에, 하나님께 구하는 것마다 응답을 받아 범사에 모자람이 없는 풍요의 축복을 받는 것입니다(대하 7:11-16).
결론:
오늘 말씀은 하나님과 동행하는 삶의 비결은 무엇보다도 그분을 기쁘시게 하는 것이라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 그러면 무엇으로 하나님을 기쁘시게 할까요?
첫째, ‘회개’를 기뻐하십니다(시 34:18, 사 57:15). 둘째, 히 12:6 말씀과 같이, 하나님은 믿음을 가장 기뻐하십니다. 또한 순종(삼상 15:22)과 감사(시 50:23)와 충성(마 25:23)을 하나님께서는 기뻐하십니다. 매사에 하나님의 말씀에 순종하고, 믿는 믿음대로 감사와 충성의 삶을 사는 사람을 기뻐하시고, 그러한 자들은 절대 혼자 두지 않으십니다.
