The Grace That Many Disease-Stricken People Had Received?
Mark 1:40-45
Today’s scripture text speaks about the fact that a leper who had heard about the news of Jesus was healed when he came forward and knelt down before Jesus; and also the fact that he spread the name and the power of Jesus because he was thankful that he received this amazing grace. During this time, leprosy was considered a cursed disease from God so the lepers were quarantined from the rest of the people. Through the fact that such person came to Jesus and was healed; let us examine together what was the grace that this leper had received.
I. The method on how this leper received the grace.
The leper received the grace of healing, and we will find out how he was able to receive such abundant grace from God.
1) He heard of the news of Jesus and ran to him. The v40 of today’s scripture text says, “A man with leprosy came to him.” This shows that he heard about the news of Jesus and was evangelized. Thus, the first way to receive grace is to “come” to Jesus who gives grace. Because this leper went to Jesus, he was able to receive the grace of healing.
2) He knelt down before Jesus. Here, “knelt down” denotes that he denied himself and was humble to testify his wish to the Almighty One; and it also contains the meaning that he fully trusts, respects, honors, and fears the other person (Jesus). When we possess such attitude as this leper did, we can be healed no matter what kind of disease we are afflicted with.
3) He begged with Jesus. As you can see from v40 of today’s scripture text where it says “begged and said,” this leper came forward and knelt down before Jesus, completely trusted him and begged with Jesus. As such, there must be wholeheartedness in prayers so that God’s consolation, love, and mercy will be included, and miraculous answer will be provided
4) He trusted Jesus’ so he entrusted everything to the Lord. Through the latter part of v40 of today’s scripture text, “If you are willing, you can make me clean,” we can see his complete confession of faith that he entrust everything to “not” his will but to the “Will” of the Lord. This testimony truly delighted Jesus, and the loving heart of Jesus that gives grace was able to go out toward this leper. Thus, when we trust Jesus and entrust everything to him, Jesus will pour abundant grace upon us (Ps 37:5, 55:22).
II. The grace that Jesus poured unto this leper.
At this time, we will examine what type of grace Jesus has poured unto this leper when he came to him and sought his grace.
1) Jesus was indignant. In the beginning of v41, we see Jesus was “indignant.” Here, “indignant” contains the meaning of feeling “pity, sorry, and worrisome.” When we begged with an earnest desire to be healed like that leper, Jesus will feel “sorry” for us. “Feeling sorry” is a manifestation of pity and the expression of mercy (Eph 2:4). That is why Apostle Paul testifies “God of all comfort” in 2Cor 1:3. While we come forward to God and wholeheartedly plead with Him, we can receive His consolation.
2) Jesus reached his hand out. The biggest grace that the leper can receive is for someone to touch his leprous body. Who in the world will try to lay a hand on a person who is leprous, who has oozing lesions and deformed skin? However, Jesus personally reached his hand and touched the leper (Mk 1:41). Everyone during the time would keep their distance from the lepers and would become frightened and run away. The lepers cannot live in the same village with the rest of the people so they segregated themselves in the isolated areas of the wilds and weep in sorrow. Jesus felt sorry for such leper, went to him and touched him. This is the greatest compassion, the greatest mercy, the greatest love and grace that Jesus poured on such leper.
3) Jesus healed him with the Word of grace and mercy. With the latter part of v41 of today’s scripture text, we can see that Jesus healed the leper with the Word “I am willing, be clean.” The Word of grace is the best option for those who are sick. The Word of salvation and the blessed Word are the best option. When we receive the grace, we must allow Jesus to work within us and not do things ourselves. Prophet Malachi said, “But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays” (Mal 4:2) No matter what types of diseases we are afflicted with, when this ray of healing touches us, we will be healed and will receive the blessing of strength.
Conclusion:
The things that the leper who received the grace had done. What this leper who was healed of his leprosy with the grace of Jesus had done with the thankfulness was to proclaim the gospel of Jesus in all directions-east, west, south and north. It is recorded in the middle of v45 of today’s scripture text, “he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news.” Hence, the duty of those who receive the greatest grace is to lift the gospel of Jesus and honor Jesus Christ while they spread about the church that they received the grace from and testify about what they received grace on. When those who received the greatest grace go out and proclaim, the work of grace will be upon them so many people will come to Jesus (Mk 1:45). As you can see, the church will grow and revive with the work of those who long for the grace of God and those who receive the grace of God. If so, I sincerely hope that while we receive amazing grace like that leper, testify Jesus to many people and boast greatly about the church, finally we all will do blessed work to glorify God by bearing abundant fruits of evangelism, overfilling the church.
많은 병자가 받은 은혜는?

오늘 본문은 예수님에 관한 소문을 들은 한 문둥병자가 예수님께 나아와 꿇어 엎드려 고침을 받은 사실과, 그가 놀라운 은혜를 받고 감사하여 예수님의 능력과 이름을 많이 전파했다는 내용을 말씀하고 있습니다. 당시 문둥병은 하나님께 저주 받은 병으로 알려져, 문둥병자들은 사람들로부터 격리되어 살아왔습니다. 이러한 자가 예수님 앞에 나아와 고침을 받았다는 사실을 통해, 이 병자가 받은 은혜는 무엇인지 함께 살펴보겠습니다.
1. 문둥병자가 은혜 받는 방법.
문둥병자가 고침 받는 은혜를 받았는데, 어떻게 해서 하나님의 크신 은혜를 받았는지 살펴보겠습니다.
1) 예수님의 소문을 듣고 예수님께로 달려왔습니다.
본문 40절에 “한 문둥병자가 예수께로 와서”라는 말씀이 있습니다. 이는 그가 예수님에 대한 소문을 듣고 전도를 받았음을 말씀해 주고 있습니다. 그러므로 은혜 받는 첫 번째 방법은 은혜를 베푸시는 예수님께로 가까이 와야 한다는 것입니다. 이 문둥병자도 예수께로 갔기 때문에 고침을 받는 은혜를 입었던 것입니다.
2) 꿇어 엎드렸습니다.
여기서 꿇어 엎드렸다는 것은 자신을 부정한다는 것이며, 능하신 자 앞에 소원을 진술하려는 겸손을 뜻하며, 상대편을 믿고 존중하고 높이고 경외한다는 의미가 들어 있습니다. 이러한 문둥병자와 같은 태도를 가질 때 어떤 병에 걸렸든지 나음을 입게 됩니다.
3) 간구하였습니다.
본문 40절의 “간구하여 가로되”라는 말에서 보듯이, 이 문둥병자는 예수께 나아와 꿇어 엎드리되 간절히 믿고 간구하였던 것입니다. 이처럼 기도에는 간절함이 있어야 하나님의 위로와 사랑, 자비가 깃들어서 기적의 응답이 임하게 됩니다.
4) 예수님의 능력을 믿고 주께 맡겼습니다.
본문 40절 하반절의 “원하시면 저를 깨끗케 하실 수 있나이다”라는 말씀을 통해, ‘나의 원’대로가 아니라 예수님의 뜻에 맡기는 온전한 믿음의 고백을 발견할 수 있습니다. 이 말씀이 예수님을 참으로 기쁘게 하였습니다. 그래서 은혜를 베푸시는 예수님의 사랑의 마음이 이 문둥병자를 향하여 갈 수 있었습니다. 그러므로 우리가 만사를 예수님을 믿고 맡기기만 하면 예수님은 우리에게 은혜의 역사를 베풀어 주시는 것입니다(시 37:5, 55:22).
2. 예수님이 문둥병자에게 베푸신 은혜.
이번에는 문둥병자가 예수님께 와서 은혜를 구할 때 예수님께서 베푸신 은혜가 무엇인지 살펴보겠습니다.
1) 민망히 여기셨습니다.
본문 41절 상반절에서 “예수께서 민망히 여기사”라는 말씀을 볼 수 있습니다. 여기서 ‘민망’하다는 말에는 ‘답답하고 딱하며 걱정스럽다’라는 뜻이 담겨 있습니다. 문둥병자처럼 낫고자 하는 간절한 믿음으로 간구할 때 예수님께서는 민망히 여기시게 됩니다. 민망히 여겼다는 것은 동정의 발로이고 긍휼의 표현이라고 할 수 있습니다(엡 2:4). 그래서 “우리 하나님은 모든 위로의 하나님이라”(고후 1:3)라고 사도 바울은 증거하고 있습니다. 우리가 이렇게 하나님께 나아와 간절히 간구하는 가운데 하나님의 위로를 받는 역사가 있는 것입니다.
2) 손을 내미셨습니다.
문둥병자에게 최고의 은혜를 베푸는 것은 그의 몸에 손을 대는 것입니다. 어느 누가 고름이 나고 피부가 문드러진 병자에게 손을 대려 하겠습니까? 그러나 예수님께서는 직접 문둥병자에게 손을 내밀어 만져 주셨습니다(막 1:41). 당시에 모든 사람이 멀리하고 가까이만 와도 질겁하며 도망갔던 문둥병자였습니다. 동네에서 같이 살지도 못하고 산간벽지나 계곡에서 가련하게 슬피 울면서 살아왔던 자입니다. 그러한 문둥병자를 예수님께서는 민망히 여기시고 가까이 가셔서 손을 대어 주셨습니다. 이것은 최대의 자비, 최대의 사랑과 은혜를 베푸신 것입니다.
3) 은혜롭고 자비로운 말씀으로 고쳐 주셨습니다.
본문 41절 하반절에서 “내가 원하노니 깨끗함을 받으라”라는 말씀으로 예수님은 문둥병자를 고쳐 주셨습니다. 병자에게는 은혜의 말씀이 최고입니다. 구원의 말씀, 축복의 말씀이 최고입니다. 은혜를 받게 되면 내가 하려고 하지 말고 예수님께서 하시도록 맡겨야 합니다. 말라기 선지자는 “내 이름을 경외하는 너희에게는 의로운 해가 떠올라서 치료하는 광선을 발하리니”(말 4:2)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 어떤 병에 걸렸든지 이 치료하는 광선이 닿기만 하면 다 녹아서 강건함의 축복을 받게 되는 것입니다.
결론: 은혜 받은 병자가 한 일
예수님께서 주시는 은혜로 문둥병을 고침 받은 자가 그 은혜에 감사하여 한 일은 동서남북 사방에 예수님의 복음을 전파한 것입니다. 본문 45절 중반절에 “그러나 그 사람이 나가서 이 일을 많이 전파하여 널리 퍼지게 하니라”라고 기록되어 있습니다. 그러므로 은혜 받은 교회를 전파하고, 은혜 받은 내용을 간증하는 가운데 예수님의 복음을 높이고, 예수 그리스도를 존귀케 하는 것이 바로 은혜 받은 자가 할 일인 것입니다. 은혜를 크게 입은 자가 나가서 전파하면 은혜의 역사가 임하기 때문에 많은 사람들이 예수께로 오게 되는 것입니다(막 1:45). 이처럼 교회는 하나님의 은혜를 사모하고 은혜 받은 자들의 역할로 부흥하게 되는 것입니다. 그렇다면 성도 여러분들도 문둥병자같이 놀라운 은혜를 받고, 많은 사람들에게 예수님을 증거하고 교회를 크게 자랑하는 가운데, 마침내 인산인해를 이룰 정도로 많은 전도의 열매를 통해 하나님께 영광 돌리는 복된 일을 하시기 바라겠습니다.
