Jesus Who Walked on Water
We, the saints, who enjoy the citizenship in Heaven as the New Creation in Christ after we believe in Him and become His people are the ones who consider the glory of the world as a loss. Moses, at the age of 40 lived where the longing for the riches of the world was at its peak, yet was able to devote himself as a vessel for God’s Will because he had the spiritual eye to see that the reward for upholding the Will of God and enduring the difficult times with the Israelites was much greater reward than all the riches of Egypt. When a person is inflicted with a disease and is bedridden, everything becomes vain and all hopes, self-esteem and will to strive will disappear. What is needed during such times is the Word of God. When the powerful Word of God that calmed the wind, storm and turbulent waves strike our spirit, the sicknesses will be driven away and the peace and serenity will be restored in our hearts. Those who experience such power of the Word can transcend the greed of the world. They can devote and uphold the Church as they promised before the Word.
I. We must deny ourselves first.
Those who acknowledge themselves, but were not able to overcome themselves are always at greater risk to make themselves an idol. Hence, Jesus said only when one denies himself and takes up his cross and follows Jesus, then he can be Jesus’ disciple (Mt 16:24). When you are suffering from the physical illnesses, you cannot expect freedom from them when you are following both the world and the Word. The Bible refers to this world as the waters that the prostitute sits on (Rev 17:15). This water contains the agony, anxiety, despair and wicked illnesses that torture the mankind. Jesus walked on such water. Not only did he he roar at the turbulent waves and storm that was like a mad lion, but Jesus even walked on such water as well. Furthermore, Jesus allowed us to have the power and authority to walk on this water. This faith is entrusting. It is faith when we renounce ourselves but entrust ourselves to God. Such faith will please God so that we will experience the works where even our illnesses will be healed (Heb 11:6).
II. We must hope for something that we cannot hope for.
The purpose and the reason why Jesus came to this earth was to give freedom and liberation to the mankind who were suffering from the illnesses as they are captured by the force of darkness. Jesus who came as a physician for all mankind is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8). Thus, I would like all of you to believe that such powerful work of healing is not to be ended as a historical fact that occurred 2000 years ago. If we show the same faithful image as before, the same authority, the same power and the same strength will surely be exhibited. Thus, we must be the ones that hope for something we cannot hope for. It is because the faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. It is because the Lord will never give up on us no matter how serious our disease was even if the physicians of the world decided to give up on us and turn their backs on us. If there is faith, there is nothing that we cannot hope for. If there is faith, there is nothing that we are not able to see. I would like you to keep in mind that what is changing is our faith and not the power of the Lord.
III. If there is no faith, we are the abandoned ones.
Jesus is the pioneer of our faith (Heb 12:2). Hence, this will certainly be a serious problem if one cannot find the same faith from us who claim to believe and follow Jesus. Therefore, we always need to make sure that Jesus, the Pioneer of Faith, dwells within us. It is because we become the abandoned ones if there is no Jesus. Isn’t it obvious that there is no answer to those who were abandoned? Jesus is looking into our hearts now. We must stand by the faithful side so that we can be saved. With faith, one gets healed; and with faith, one gets saved. The Lord will never abandon those with faith or let them fall. He will surely raise us up at the end. Therefore, we must possess great faith that the Lord is pleased with. If our faith is acknowledged by the Lord, He will proclaim the Word of Life to us, “your request is granted.” Is there any disease that can penetrate in the faith that was acknowledged by the Lord?
Conclusion:
My beloved saints! Is your heart troubled with turbulence from illnesses and other worrisome circumstances even at this moment? Without faith, you are destined to be engulfed by such waves and lose your heart. However, if we only look upon the Lord, we can confidently walk on the water with the Lord. All we need to do is to accept Jesus as our Master. All we need is such faith that accepts the Lord as our Master, the faith that accepts the Lord as our Bridegroom, and the faith that accepts the Lord as our Teacher. Through the strong works of faith, I would like you to walk on the water. The water called a disease, the water called the family problem–I would like all of you to step on them and stand up tall and firm. I would like you to remember that even when we fall into the water due to lack of faith, the Lord is right by us and holds our hands and pulls us up if we ask Him to save us. I sincerely hope that the request for us to walk on the water and the request to save us are accepted in the heart of the Lord so that there will be a work of victory where all of us will walk on the water.
물 위를 걸으신 예수님
예수를 믿고 그의 백성이 되어 그리스도 안에서 새로운 피조물로서 하늘의 시민권자의 삶을 누리는 성도들은, 믿음으로 세상의 영화를 배설물같이 버린 자들입니다. 모세는 세상 물질의 욕심이 가장 강렬하게 발산되는 나이 사십인 성년의 때에, 애굽의 모든 보화보다 하나님의 백성과 함께 고생하면서 하나님의 뜻을 받듦으로 인해 받게 되는 상급이 훨씬 크다는 것을 보는 믿음의 눈을 가짐으로써 뜻의 도구로 헌신할 수가 있었습니다. 사람은 육신의 병으로 인해 침상에 눕게 되면 모든 욕심이 부질없게 되고, 희망, 자신감, 의욕도 사라집니다. 그러할 때 필요한 것이 하나님의 말씀입니다. 바람과 폭풍, 성난 물결조차 잠잠케 하시는 능력의 말씀 한마디만 우리 영혼에 부딪히면 병마는 달아나고, 다시 마음의 안정과 평강을 회복하게 될 것입니다. 이런 말씀의 능력을 체험한 자는 세상의 욕심을 초월할 수 있습니다. 말씀 앞에 약속한 대로 교회를 받들며 헌신할 수가 있습니다.
1. 먼저는 자신을 부인해야 합니다.
자신을 인정하고 자신을 정복하지 못한 자는 언제나 스스로를 우상으로 만들 위험 소지가 많습니다. 따라서 주님도, 먼저 자신을 부인하고 자기 십자가를 질 때만 당신을 좇을 수 있다고 말씀하신 것입니다(마 16:24). 육신의 병으로 고통을 당하고 있으면서도 아직도 ‘말씀’과 ‘세상’이라는 두 마리 토끼를 좇는다면, 병으로부터의 해방은 기대할 수가 없는 것입니다. 성경은 이 세상을 음녀가 깔고 앉은 악한 물이라고 말씀하십니다(계 17:15). 이 물에는 인간을 괴롭히는 근심과 걱정과 한숨, 그리고 악한 병까지도 다 들어 있습니다. 이런 물 위를 주님은 걸으신 것입니다. 성난 사자 같은 풍랑과 물결을 호령하심은 물론, 그 위를 걷기까지 하신 것입니다. 그리고 우리에게도 이 물 위를 걸을 수 있는 능력과 권세를 허락해 주셨습니다. 믿음은 맡기는 것입니다. 자신을 포기하고 자신을 맡기는 것이 믿음입니다. 이런 믿음만이 하나님을 기쁘시게 함으로써 우리의 병까지도 고쳐 주시는 역사를 체험하게 하는 것입니다(히 11:6).
2. 바랄 수 없는 것을 바라야 합니다.
예수님이 이 땅에 오신 목적은, 어두움의 세력에 사로잡혀 병으로 신음하며 고통하는 인간에게 자유와 해방을 주시기 위해서입니다. 만인의 의사로 오신 예수님은 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 변함이 없는 분이십니다(히 13:8). 그러므로 병 고치는 능력의 역사가 2천 년 전 역사적인 사실로서 끝날 성질의 것이 아님을 믿으시기 바랍니다. 오늘도 우리가 같은 믿음의 모습을 보이기만 하면 똑같은 권세, 똑같은 능력, 똑같은 힘이 반드시 나타납니다. 이것을 믿는 것이 믿음입니다. 그러므로 우리는 바랄 수 없는 것을 바라는 자들이 되어야 합니다. 믿음은 바라는 것들의 실상이며 보지 못하는 것들의 증거가 되기 때문입니다. 자신의 병이 아무리 중해도, 세상의 의사들이 설령 포기하고 등 돌린 병이라 할지라도 주님은 절대 포기하는 법이 없으시기 때문입니다. 믿음만 있다면 못 바랄 것이 없습니다. 믿음만 있다면 보지 못할 것이 없습니다. 변하는 것은 우리의 믿음이지, 주님의 능력이 아님을 명심하시기 바랍니다.
3. 믿음이 없으면 우리는 버리운 자입니다.
예수님은 우리의 믿음의 주인이십니다(히 12:2). 따라서 그분을 믿고 따르는 우리에게서 같은 믿음을 발견할 수가 없다면 그것은 심각한 문제가 아닐 수 없습니다. 그래서 우리는 언제나 우리 속에 믿음의 주 예수님이 계신지의 여부를 점검해야 하는 것입니다. 예수님이 없으면 버리운 자가 되기 때문입니다. 버림을 받은 자의 간구에 응답이 있을 리 만무하지 않습니까? 지금 예수님은 우리의 마음속을 들여다보고 계십니다. 믿음 있는 쪽에서 서서 구원 받는 역사가 있어야 합니다. 믿음으로 병 고치고, 믿음으로 구원 받는 것입니다. 믿음이 있는 자를 주님은 결코 버리지 않으시고, 넘어지게 내버려두지 않으십니다. 마지막에 반드시 세워 주십니다. 그러므로 우리는 주께서 기뻐하시는 큰 믿음을 가져야 합니다. 주님께 우리의 믿음이 인정받기만 하면, 주님은 “네 믿음대로 되라”라는 생명의 선언을 우리에게 허락해 주십니다. 주께로부터 인정받는 믿음 앞에 질병이 발붙일 곳이 어디 있겠습니까?
결론:
사랑하는 성도 여러분, 지금 이 순간에도 병이나 기타 근심스런 일들로 인해 마음에 풍랑이 일고 있습니까? 믿음이 없으니 물결의 거셈에 마음을 빼앗겨 빠져들 수밖에 없습니다. 그러나 주님만을 바라보면 주와 함께 물 위를 당당히 걸을 수 있습니다.
예수님을 주인으로 모시기만 하면 됩니다. 주님을 주인으로 모시는 믿음, 주님을 남편같이 모시는 믿음, 주님을 스승같이 모시는 믿음, 이런 믿음만 있으면 됩니다. 강력한 믿음의 역사를 통해 물 위를 걸으시기 바랍니다. 병이라는 물, 가정 문제라는 물, 자녀들의 문제라는 물—모든 물들을 밟고, 믿음으로 그 위에 우뚝 서시기를 바랍니다. 설혹 믿음이 적어 물속으로 빠져 들어갈 때도, 우리가 건져 달라고 외치기만 하면 우리의 손을 잡아 이끌어 주시는 주님이 우리 곁에 계심을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 물 위를 걷게 해 달라는 간구, ‘나를 구원해 주소서’라는 간구가 주의 마음에 합당하여 모두가 물 위를 걷는 승리의 역사만 있으시기를 부탁드립니다.
