Those Who Pray will Live
What God spoke of will surely be accomplished before this world ends. Because the Word of God foretells the resurrection of life to the righteous and the resurrection of judgment to the wicked, there is no one who will escape from the final persecution. Not only that, there is no place on this earth that works as a refuge. The Lord clearly teaches us from today’s Scripture text that only way to escape from the persecution and stand before the Lord is the Word of God. When we move according to the command of the Word, the obedience itself becomes the refuge or the Way to live. The Word that existed from the Beginning is our refuge and the leader. When we pray, this Word stands on our side. Only the living and vigilant prayer can revive us.
I. The issues of sin cannot be resolved without prayer
The life of a man after the fall of Adam is nothing but anxiety, fear, and hopelessness. As a result of sin, the earth was cursed and was destined to bring forth thorns and thistles, so there are thorns and thistles in every aspect of man’s life. Hence, only prayer will resolve. I would like you to repent the sins you have committed and entrust yourselves, your families and the entire nation to God through the prayers. Everything will change. You will be healed. We are faced with difficulties due to an economic recession, but we will be able to experience that there cannot be recession or famine in the Word. The Word is always full (Jn 10:10). The eyes and the ears of God dwell in the church (2 Chr 7:11-16). Thus, whatever we pray in the church will not be rejected but will be accepted by God. King Hezekiah defeated the millions of army of Sennacherib of Assyria when he prayed in the temple. A miracle of the death of 185000 soldiers took place that night (2 Ki 19:35). Hezekiah prayed in the temple while he opened the letter that Sennacherib had sent. It is because he was certain that God’s eyes and ears were in the temple. I sincerely hope that we resolve our problems with such powerful prayer.
II. The problems will be resolved when you humbly lower yourself
God enjoys the humble prayers (Lk 18:10-14). When we stay alert and always keep on praying, God will not withdraw His helping hands (Eph 6:18). We must move forward if we prayed with the purpose and the will. That is when it will be fulfilled. We have to insist. We cannot expect an answer when we commit sin by failing to pray and seek the Lord only when we need him. Because God disregards us as much as we disregard Him, we cannot receive help during urgent situations. Hence, a humble prayer is a prayer that waits for an answer while remains in Him at all times and relies on His name (Jn 15:7). The Lord is waiting for the prayers of suck people.
III. When we run low on “capital,” we can ask the Holy Spirit
For the times that we are not able to pray because our hearts are unstable and unable to capture the strand of thoughts, the Lord has opened the way to request through the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:26). We do not need to worry. All we need to do is to ask the Holy Spirit in the name of the Lord. If we ask, “God, my prayer capital is running low. I am unable to capture the strand of my thoughts. You know the wishes in my heart and the topics of my prayer. Please pray for me,” the Holy Spirit will carry our worries and will intercede for us through wordless groans. Because this is a prayer through the Holy Spirit, it is nothing but proper. These are the examples of proper prayers.
1. It is a prayer that is offered while you were alert (Mt 21:22 1 Pet 4:7).
2. It is a prayer offered to seek His Will (1 Jn 5:14).
3. It is a prayer offered in the name of Jesus (Jn 14:13-14).
4. It is a prayer offered with a true heart (Ps 66:18 Mt 5:5-6).
5. It is an incessant prayer (1 Thes 5:17).
6. It is a prayer offered with thanksgiving (Php 4:6).
7. It is a prayer of repentance (Jer 3:13, Lev 26:40-42 1 Jn 1:9).
I sincerely hope that we utilize the Holy Spirit as our “capital” so that our prayers will be answered.
Conclusion:
The prayer is our only way to live. Very early in the morning, Jesus offered a prayer filled with extreme wailing and plea to God (Mk 1:35). It is because God listens to the prayers offered early in the morning (Ps 46:5, 88:13, 119:147, 130:6, 139:9). When he drove out the unclean spirit that was mute and deaf, Jesus said, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer” (Mk 9:28-29). There will be no answer to a faithless prayer offered with two hearts. It is because it is like a person who is influenced by the turbulent sea waves (Mt 7:7 Lk 11:8 Jas 1:5-8). Let us offer prayers with faith. If we believe, we will receive an answer of success. We will be freed from the illnesses, our wishes will come true, and we will be guaranteed the blessing of eternal life (1Pet 1:9-10). I sincerely hope that all of you will always be victorious in the Lord through the prayers.
기도하는 사람은 살고
하나님께서 하신 말씀은 이 세상이 다 끝나기 전에 반드시 성취되고야 맙니다. 의인에게는 생명의 부활을, 악인에게는 심판의 부활을 예고하신 하나님의 말씀이기에 이 마지막 환난을 피할 자는 아무도 없습니다.
뿐만 아니라, 이 세상에는 그 어느 곳에도 피난처가 없습니다. 본문에서 주님은 환난을 피하고 주 앞에 서는 길 곧 피난처는 하나님의 말씀밖에 없다는 사실을 분명히 가르치십니다. 말씀이 가라면 가고 서라면 설 때, 그 순종 자체가 살 수 있는 길 피난처가 된다는 말씀인 것입니다. 태초의 말씀이 우리의 피난처이고, 우리의 인도자이십니다. 기도할 때, 이 말씀은 우리 편이 되어 주십니다. 깨어 있는 산 기도만이 우리를 살릴 수 있습니다.
1. 죄 문제는 기도 없이 해결할 수 없습니다
아담 타락 이래 인간의 삶은 언제나 불안과 공포, 암담함뿐입니다. 죄의 결과로 땅은 저주 받아 가시와 엉겅퀴를 낼 수밖에 없게 되었고, 따라서 인간의 생활 그 어디에도 이 가시와 엉겅퀴는 있게 마련이기 때문입니다. 그러므로 기도 외에 딴 것으로는 해결이 안 됩니다.
죄 지은 것을 기도하고, 자신과 가정, 나라 전체를 맡기고 하나님 앞에 기도해 보시기 바랍니다. 모든 것이 바뀌게 됩니다. 고침을 받습니다. 나라 경제의 침체로 인해 어려움을 당하고 있지만, 말씀에는 불경기가 있을 수 없고 흉년이 없음을 체험하게 될 것입니다. 말씀은 언제나 풍성합니다(요 10:10).
교회에는 하나님의 눈과 귀가 머물러 있습니다(대하 7:11-16). 그러므로 교회에서 기도하는 모든 것은 외면당하지 않고 하나님께 열납됩니다. 히스기야왕도 앗수르의 산헤립의 수백만 군대가 쳐들어왔을 때, 성전에 올라가 기도함으로써 물리쳤습니다. 하루아침에 18만 5천 명을 죽이는 역사가 나타난 것입니다(왕하 19:35). 그는 산헤립이 보낸 편지를 성전에 펼치고 기도했습니다. 성전 가운데 하나님의 눈과 귀가 함께한다는 사실을 확신했기 때문입니다. 이런 깨어 있는 기도로 어려운 문제를 해결하는 성도가 되시기를 바랍니다.
2. 겸손하게 낮출 때 문제는 해결됩니다
겸허한 기도는 하나님께서 기뻐하십니다(눅 18:10-14). 무시로 깨어서 구하기를 항상 힘쓸 때, 하나님은 도움의 손길을 거두지 않으십니다(엡 6:18). 목적과 뜻을 정하고 기도했으면, 진격을 해야 합니다. 그래야 성취할 수가 있습니다. 끝장을 보는 기도를 해야만 한다는 뜻입니다.
기도 쉬는 죄를 범하고, 위급할 때만 주를 찾는 기도는 응답을 받을 수 없습니다. 내가 외면했던 것만큼 하나님도 외면하시기 때문에, 급할 때에 도움을 받을 수 없게 되는 것입니다. 따라서 겸손한 기도는, 언제나 주님을 가까이에 모시고 그 이름을 의지하면서 응답을 기대하는 기도입니다(요 15:7). 이런 자의 기도를 주님은 기다리고 계십니다.
3. 기도의 밑천이 떨어지면 성령님께 부탁하면 됩니다
기도의 가닥이 잡히지 않고 마음의 안정이 없어 기도하지 못하게 될 때를 위해, 주님은 성령을 통한 간구의 길을 열어 놓으셨습니다(롬 8:26). 염려할 필요가 없습니다.
주님의 이름으로 성령님께 부탁하기만 하면 됩니다. ‘내 기도의 밑천이 떨어졌습니다. 기도의 가닥도 잡히지 않습니다. 내 마음의 소원과 간구의 제목을 아시오니 내 대신 기도하여 주시기 바랍니다’ 하기만 하면, 성령님께서 말할 수 없는 탄식 가운데에 우리의 염려를 대신 짊어지시고 기도해 주십니다.
성령을 통한 기도이기에 이 기도는 올바를 수밖에 없습니다. 올바른 기도는
1. 깨어서 기도하는 것입니다(마 21:22, 벧전 4:7).
2. 하나님의 뜻대로 구하는 기도입니다(요일 5:14).
3. 예수님의 이름으로 드리는 기도입니다(요 14:13-14).
4. 참마음으로 하는 기도입니다(시 66:18, 마 5:5-6).
5. 쉬지 않는 기도입니다(살전 5:17).
6. 감사하는 기도입니다(빌 4:6).
7. 회개하는 기도입니다(렘 3:13, 레 26:40-42, 요일 1:9).
성령을 밑천 삼아 응답받는 기도를 드리는 성도가 되시기를 바랍니다.
결론:
기도밖에 살 길이 없습니다. 예수님도 새벽 미명에 심한 통곡과 간구를 하나님께 올렸습니다(막 1:35). 하나님께서는 새벽에 기도를 들으시기 때문입니다(시 46:5, 88:13, 119:147, 130:6, 139:9).
‘벙어리 되고 귀먹은 귀신’을 내쫓으신 때에도 “기도 외에 다른 것으로는 이런 유가 나갈 수 없느니라” 말씀하셨습니다(막 9:28-29). 기도하되, 믿음으로 하지 않고 두 마음을 품은 기도에는 응답이 없습니다. 바다 물결에 요동하는 사람 같기 때문입니다(마 7:7, 눅 11:8, 약 1:5-8). 믿음의 기도를 드립시다. 믿으면 형통의 응답을 받습니다. 질병에서 해방되고, 소원이 성취되며, 영생의 축복을 보장받습니다(벧전 1:9-10). 언제나 기도로 주 안에서 승리하는 성도가 되시기를 바랍니다.
