How Shall We Serve God Wholeheartedly?
In the year of 2017, we have ridden the spiritual train guided by our God. What is His purpose for selecting us and bringing us thus far by driving the spiritual train for us? It is to make us love Him, fear Him and to obey His Word. God called us to serve only Him. Deut 10:10-13 stated that God told us to fear Him, to walk in obedience to Him to love Him, and to serve Him with all our heart and soul. If so, let us examine together what we should do to serve God with sincerity.
I. Serve only God with all your heart
God is clearly commanding us in Deut 10:11-13 to serve Him with all our heart and soul. To “give all your heart” means to offer 100% and not 99%. We cannot completely believe in God with the power of the fallen mankind. When there are strong power and the strength of the Holy Spirit, we can truly believe in God by His strong administration. It is also stated in 1Chr 28:9 “Acknowledge God and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind.” Thus, when we serve God with all our heart, or love and serve Him with a whole heart, He will love us and respect us as well (1Sam 2:3).
II. Serve God with sincerity
It is stated in Jos 24:14 “Fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness.” It is also stated in 1Sam 12:24 “Be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all your heart.” Hence, the attitude of faith to serve wholeheartedly is the humbleness and tears. The attitude of Apostle Paul who endured with humility and tears to serve the Lord even when he was pressed on every side and faced with difficult problems, is the example of how one should serve God (Acts 20:19).
III. Serve God with all your soul
It is stated in Deut 6:5 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” We see that the members of the Early Church including Apostle Paul served God wholeheartedly day and night (Acts 26:7). Hence, the illnesses of the flesh will be healed when we serve God with all our heart and soul.
IV. Serve God acceptably
It is clearly stated in Heb 12:28 “worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” King David encouraged Solomon in 1Chr 28:9 “My son Solomon, acknowledge God and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind.” When we do God’s work or give an offering, we must gladly make a sacrifice and serve (1Chr 27:17).
V. Serve God with offering
When we see those who served Jesus and his disciples during the time of Jesus, there weren’t anyone with power and authority but a few women who offered their possessions to serve them wholeheartedly. We see in Lk 8:3 “These women were helping to support them out of their own means.” It is stated in 2Cor 9:7 “God loves a cheerful giver.” God joyfully accepts the sacrifice of those who offer in grace with joy and thankfulness and work in faith and gratitude that everything belongs to God.
VI. Serve God while praying on all occasions
It is testified in Lk 2:37 that a prophet Anna, the daughter of the tribe of Asher, served the Lord by never leaving the temple but worshipped day and night, fasting and praying. We see from Acts 13:2 that the Holy Spirit answered when they served the Lord by “worshipping and fasting.” Hence, God commanded us to dispatch the missionaries when we served the Lord with sincerity while fasting and praying. We see in Lk 1:10 that all assembled worshippers were praying outside while the incense was burning. It is also commanded in Eph 6:18 “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Hence, we can be saved from all future tribulations when we pray on all occasion and always stay alert to serve God.
VII. Serve God with all your heart and soul and without doubts
We can see in Rom 1:9 “God, whom I serve in my spirit.” Serving God is the issues involving the spirit. That is why it is stated in Rom 7:6 “we serve in the new way of the Spirit” and commanded us to serve Him with “holiness and righteousness” in Lk 1:75.
Conclusion:
It is stated in Rom 9:16 that we were able to believe in God and allowed to live in the Word only by the grace of God’s mercy. I sincerely hope that we truthfully serve God with all our soul and heart, trust God who does not regret calling us (Rom 11:29) but selected us and enabled us to believe in Him.
하나님을 진심으로 섬기는 방법은?
2017년 한 해도 하나님께서 인도해 주시는 신령한 기차를 타고 우리는 이 시간까지 달려왔습니다. 이처럼 하나님께서 우리를 뽑아 주시고, 신령한 기차를 운전해서 이 자리까지 달려오게 하신 목적은 무엇입니까? 그것은 하나님을 사랑하고 경외하며 그 말씀대로 행하게 하시기 위함입니다. 오직 당신만을 섬기게 하시기 위해 우리를 불러 주신 것입니다.
신 10:10-13에도, 하나님께서 우리에게 하나님을 경외하며 모든 도를 행하고 그를 사랑하며 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 하나님을 섬기라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 그렇다면 과연 어떻게 하는 것이 하나님을 진심으로 섬기는 방법인지, 함께 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.
1. 마음을 다하여 하나님만 섬기라
신 10:11-3 말씀처럼, 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 하나님을 섬기라고 분명히 명령하고 있습니다. 마음을 다한다는 것은 99%가 아니라 100% 온전히 바치는 것을 말합니다. 우리의 타락한 인간의 능력으로는 이처럼 온전히 하나님을 믿을 수 없습니다. 성령님의 강력한 힘과 능력이 임할 때 강권적인 역사로 하나님을 참되게 믿을 수가 있는 것입니다. 대상 28:9 말씀에도 보면, “하나님을 알고 온전한 마음과 기쁜 뜻으로 섬길지어다”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이처럼 마음을 다하여, 즉 성심으로 하나님을 사랑하고 섬길 때 하나님께서도 우리를 사랑해 주시고 존중히 여겨 주시는 것입니다(삼상 2:3).
2. 정성을 다하여 섬기라
수 24:14에 보면, “여호와를 경외하며 성실과 진정으로 그를 섬길 것이라”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 삼상 12:24에도 “오직 그를 경외하며 너희의 마음을 다하여 진실히 섬기라”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이처럼 정성을 다하여 섬기는 신앙 자세는 겸손과 눈물입니다. 동서남북 사방으로 욱여쌈을 당하고 어려운 문제에 부딪힐지라도 겸손과 눈물로 시험을 참고 주를 섬겼던 사도 바울의 자세가 바로, 정성을 다하여 하나님을 섬기는 것입니다(행 20:19).
3. 성품을 다하여 섬겨야 됩니다.
신 6:5에 보면, “마음을 다하고 성품을 다하고 힘을 다하여 네 하나님 여호와를 사랑하라”라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 사도 바울을 비롯하여 당시 초대교회 성도들도 밤낮으로 간절히 하나님을 받들어 섬겼던 것을 볼 수 있습니다(행 26:7). 이처럼 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 섬길 때 육신의 질병까지도 치유함을 받게 됩니다.
4. 기쁘게 섬기라
우리가 하나님을 섬기되 기쁘게 섬겨야 됩니다. 히 12:28에도 “경건함과 두려움으로 하나님을 기쁘게 섬길지니”라고 분명히 말씀하고 있습니다. 대상 28:9 말씀에서도, 다윗왕은 솔로몬왕에게 이르기를 “내 아들 솔로몬아 네 아비의 하나님을 알고 온전한 마음과 기쁜 뜻으로 섬길지어다”라고 권면하고 있습니다. 주의 일에 봉사할 때나, 헌금할 때도 이처럼 기쁘게 헌신하고 바쳐야 됩니다(대상 27:17).
5. 물질을 드려 가면서 섬기라
예수님 당시에 예수님과 열두 제자를 섬겼던 사람들을 보면 권세 있는 자들도 아니고, 몇몇 부녀자들이 자신들의 물질을 바쳐 가며 힘을 다해 섬겼던 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 눅 8:3에 적은 무리의 여자들이 “자기들의 소유로 저희를 섬기더라”라고 말씀하고 있는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 고후 9:7 말씀을 볼 때, 하나님은 “즐겨 내는 자를 사랑”하십니다. 은혜 가운데 기쁨과 감사함으로, 모든 것이 하나님의 것이라는 믿음과 감사 속에 일할 때 하나님께서 그 모든 헌신을 기뻐 받으십니다.
6. 무시로 기도하면서 섬기라
눅 2:37에서 아셀 지파의 딸 선지자 안나는 “성전을 떠나지 아니하고 주야에 금식하며 기도함으로” 주를 섬겼다고 증거하고 있으며, 행 13:2에서도 “주를 섬겨 금식할 때”에 성령의 응답이 있었던 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 이처럼 금식하며 기도함으로 정성을 다하여 주를 섬길 때 하나님께서 선교사 파송을 명령하셨던 것입니다.
눅 1:10에도 모든 백성은 분향하는 동안에 밖에 서서 기도하고 있는 것을 볼 수 있으며, 엡 6:18에도 “모든 기도와 간구로 하되 무시로 성령 안에서 기도하라”라고 명령하고 있습니다. 이와 같이 무시로 기도하며 늘 깨어 하나님을 섬길 때, 장차 올 모든 환난으로부터 구원함을 받을 수 있습니다.
7. 신령과 진정으로 의심 없이 섬기자
롬 1:9 볼 때, ‘내 심령으로 섬기는 하나님을 믿는다’는 내용을 발견할 수 있습니다. 하나님을 섬기는 것은 신령의 문제입니다. 그래서 롬 7:6에도 “영의 새로운 것으로 섬기”라고 말씀하셨으며, 눅 1:75에도 “성결과 의로” 섬기라고 명령하고 있습니다.
결론:
롬 9:16에 보면, 오직 긍휼히 여기시는 하나님의 은총으로 우리가 믿게 되었고, 말씀 안에서 살아갈 수 있도록 하셨다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 부르심에 후회하심이 없는 하나님께서(롬 11:29) 우리를 선택하시고 믿게 해 주셨다는 것을 믿고, 마음과 성품을 다해서 진실되게 하나님을 섬기는 성도님들이 되시기 바랍니다.
