Psalm 84:1-12 Acts 9:31, 16:5

When we look at today’s scripture text, Ps 84:5, it says “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.” What it tells us is that those whose hearts are set on pilgrimage are destined to receive nothing but prosperity, success, peace and revival every day. If so, I sincerely hope that we all realize the importance of duties that were entrusted to us this year, reconstruct our church, ourselves, and our households with the Word of God so that we can bear abundant fruits of light.

I. The duty of a believer is not a sideline but a full time job.
If we look at Ps 16:5, we hear the confession of David who says, “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.” Here, he says that God is the portion of inheritance and the support for the lot for us believers. Hence, the duty that was entrusted to the believers in order for them to believe and to serve God is not a sideline but a full time job. That is why it is also clearly said in Jn 6:28-29, “This is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” Because a duty that God entrusted to His believers is spiritual duty, it is incomparable to any rank of the world. Thus, those who are entrusted with the God given duties must perform their duties faithfully and not tangled with civilian affairs. Like a soldier who cannot have a sideline in the line of duty or be tangled with civilian affairs, those who are entrusted with the God given duties must work diligently to please their commanding officer who has appointed them (2 Tim 2:3-4).

II. The duty of a believer is the food for those who are entrusted with that duty.
To those who are entrusted with the duty, the “duty itself” is their food; therefore, those who cannot perform their duties in full capacity will be starved due to lack of food. Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work” (Jn 4:34). Thus, in order to handle the duties in its full capacity, we must dwell in the House of the Lord. Like it is stated in 2 Chr 1:1 “God was with him and made him exceedingly great,” those who bear the God given duties are not the ones who live in someone else’s houses but in the House of the Lord. Furthermore, like how God trained the Israelites in the “iron-melting furnace” and made them to follow the Will of God so that they can go near God daily and fervently love God, trust and obey the Word that God gives, as it is stated in Deut 30:19-20 or in 1 Ki 8:51, those who are entrusted with the duties must become the faithful workers. As you can see, those who faithfully perform their given duties will always be successful, prosperous, and in peace. In order for it to happen, those who are entrusted with the duties must first pray. Secondly, they have to read the Bible and thirdly, they themselves must be burning with desire to dedicate and commit so they visit every household and rekindle the fire of evangelism. While considering the duty as their “food” and be faithful to that duty, the individuals, households and the church will consequentially be purified, become noble and beautiful, and receive so much blessing that many people will envy. Therefore, those who are entrusted with the duties must fully engage themselves with the dedication and commitment in everything they do. When that happens, the eyes of God will stay with you and protect you from beginning to the end of the time (Deut 11:12).

III. In order to properly perform the duties, we must be open-minded spiritually.
Those who are entrusted with the duties must be open-minded spiritually so the way to pilgrimage will be opened, enabling them to perform their given duties successfully. It is recorded in Lk 3:21-22 that when Jesus was also baptized, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven. As you can see, every time that those who were entrusted with the duties pray, the gate of response should always be open widely so that there will be prosperity, success, peace and revival daily. When Elijah prayed, the heaven was open and the rain poured down on the drought land that hasn’t had a drop of rain for 3 years and 6 months. When Stephen prayed, he saw Jesus standing on the right side of the throne. During the time of Elisha, God opened the eyes of Gehazi the servant of Elisha, and he saw the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire (2 Ki 6:14-17, 20). That is why the Psalmist confessed “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law” in Ps 119:18.

If so, what should we do to make the spiritual door to be opened?
1) We must be born again with water and the Holy Spirit. When we are born again through true repentance and the baptism, the divine spiritual world will be opened.
2) Our ears must open up. If there are no ears to hear the Word of God, the spiritual world will never be opened. That is why Jesus always said after he proclaimed the Word, “Whoever has ears, let them hear.” (Mt 11:15, 13:9, 43, Lk 14:35).
3) Our hearts must open up. When Jesus opened the hearts of Lydia who sells purple cloth in the City of Thyatira, her household was blessed with the blessing of prosperity and success, and the grace to be able to hear the Word and the voice of God (Acts 16:14).

Conclusion:
Before doing anything, those who are entrusted with the duties must realize themselves first. Apostle Paul humbled himself to realize himself as “one untimely born and I am the least of the apostles.” Even Moses too said of himself as “I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exo 4:10). Job considered himself as “maggots and worms” after he realized the Will of God (Job 7:5, 7). As they were able to perform the given duties on the foundation that they came to realize and confessed the true essence of life that life is like a jars of clay or the weeds in the field, I truly bless everyone and hope that before we manage the given duties for this year, there will only be prosperity, success, peace and revival established on the foundation of proper self-realization and confession.
